**Position Overview**

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

The Research Assistant will assist with many aspects of PONI-lab studies without necessarily being directly involved in the data collection of all projects. They will also be involved in studies on which we collaborate. This includes liaising with clinical partners to facilitate participant recruitment, administrative and technical work that encompasses the breadth of approaches employed by the laboratory. Research of this nature requires intellectual acuity, the ability to learn new skills on the fly, and the ability to deal with multiple situations simultaneously.

This position involves research work. Work intensity is variable and may, on occasion require extended hours. Hours average 3.5 hours per day, 5 days/week.

This is Recurring Part-time position. Recurring Part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perforrm work on an irregular schedule.

**Position Description**

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Develop participant recruitment methods and within 9 months ensure an effective, efficient participant recruitment strategy is in place to all PONI-lab studies. Currently operating studies will be meeting their recruitment targets
- Communicate and educate patients and their families regarding the research
- Liaise with all research team members and sponsors/other collaborators
- Maintain research study regulatory documentation and patient data.
- Keep electronic records of all study material including protocols, informed consent forms, questionnaires, renewals, modifications, etc.
- Manage daily operations of the lab including training and support of laboratory staff and/or trainees, ordering and arranging supplies and equipment, coordinating meeting times and locations independently
- Keep PONI-lab clean and safe
- Be a positive representative of the PONI-lab in specific and research in general in both clinical and research environments
- Other related duties as assigned

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Bachelor Degree required
- Graduate degree in Engineering, Kinesiology or Neuroscience an asset. Previous experience as a Research Assistant for clinical research including participant recruitment, an asset
- 2-5 years of related experience in human research and/or with people with disabilities -strongly recommended
- Intermediate to advance computer literacy with MS Windows, MS Office suite required
- Database creation and management experience recommended
- Training in other aspects may be provided, but some experience in the field is preferred
- Comfort and ability to communicate in English and interact with infants, children, teens, and adults (including those with an array of physical, communication and intellectual abilities) and family members is required
- Clinical Trial Coordinator training, including any of the following courses, is recommended: Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit: Leadership in Patient Oriented Research: Pragmatic Clinical Trials Certificate Program; Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program); National Institutes of Health (NIH): Protecting Human Research Participants; Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans; Northern Alberta Clinical Trials + Research Centre (NACTRC) - Study Coordinator Training Program
- Knowledge of University policies, processes and procedures including submission of projects to ethics boards and regulations for granting agencies (eg. Tri Council) recommended
