Position Overview


The
Calgary Centre for Clinical Research in the
Cumming School of Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term
Financial Research Advisor for approximately 12 months.


This position reports to the Director of the Calgary Centre for Clinical Research (CCCR) and will liaise with Clinical Trial Coordinators, CSM Legal, Research Accounting and Accounts Receivable in regards to budgets and financial information in research contracts.


This position requires excellent analytical and organizational skills to review incoming clinical research budgets and assist with negotiating budgets with study sponsors including Pharmaceutical companies, academic institutions and not-for-profit organizations.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Working in partnership with departments, Research Services, Research Accounting, Legal Counsel and the researchers, this position will consult and liaise to ensure all contracts are in accordance with the terms and regulations provided by the source of funds and the policies of the University
  • Provides advice and administrative assistance to departments and account holders regarding
  • Clinical trial polices of overhead and archiving fees
  • Protocol Submission Program (PSP)
  • University policies and procedures
  • University financial systems
  • Ensure that clinical trial cheques and removal of clinical trial overhead are processed in a timely manner
  • Reconcile the receipt of all clinical trial cheques and removal of clinical trial overhead
  • Accurate and timely review of the financial attachments of all industry clinical trial contracts
  • Prepare journals for processing with associated documentation and signatures
  • Monitors the processing of all CCCR financial transactions
  • Communicate daily in a professional and pleasant manner with faculty, staff and external sources (such as government agencies and industry sponsors)
  • Work as a member of a team in CCCR to ensure timelines are met and that work produced is accurate and professional

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in science or finance related discipline
  • Five years of experience in a clinical trial coordinator or academic finance role
  • Experience with research agreements and payment terms
  • Experience with accounting or research management software
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting concepts
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project budgeting
  • Knowledge of research funding agencies and their regulations
  • Knowledge of University culture and crossdepartmental policies
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a high volume workload within set timelines
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to achieve high accuracy
  • Proven ability to work as a member of a team, as well as independently using a high degree of judgment and initiative
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Advanced skills using the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, MS Teams, Word, PowerPoint), SharePoint and communication tools like zoom
