**IT Business Analyst**

**ABOUT THIS ROLE**

Burlington Hydro Inc. (“BHI”) is currently seeking an IT Business Analyst to join our IT team. Reporting to the Director of IT and Business Transformation, you are customer service oriented and possess good communication skills to foster cooperation and collaboration with internal IT staff, end users and external vendors.

This is an **onsite** position at our 1340 Brant Street Location, Burlington. Burlington Hydro currently offers eligible employees to work remotely 1-day per week as part of the Work from Home Pilot.

**CORE RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Assists to develop, document, and maintain business and functional requirements. Conducts structured walkthroughs of requirements with business and project team members
- Work with project teams to support requirements gathering
- Facilitates the identification of business requirements and their definition
- Assists to develop test matrices and conduct thorough tests (UAT; QA as required)
- Evaluates defects identified and ensure achievement of requirements prior to the release
- Assists in performing task automation and implements process improvements; recommends enhancements that result in increased quality and service
- Evaluates and tracks new or enhanced solutions to determine potential issues and communicates how problems may affect business and recommends solutions
- Facilitates and/or develops processes to support improvement or efficiencies in the business function through use of technology
- Assists vendors with understanding and developing new software features based on end user requirements
- Assists Users with Unit and QA Testing including the construction of test scenarios, staging of test data sets, participating in the testing process and final analysis of test results
- Recommends, schedules, and performs software improvements and upgrades
- Works with business stakeholders, external partners, to analyze business challenges, and prioritizes work to maximize the business value delivered
- Performs other duties as assigned

**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**
- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in business analysis, solutions analyst, or a similar technical role.
- Hands-on programming/technical experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of Data Structures
- Solid understanding of, and demonstrated working knowledge in the construction of quality, performance-based SQL
- Experience working with IBM Cognos reporting tool including report items, report studio, indexes, and metrics designer.
- Experience working in Microsoft Power BI, including power query, filters, dashboards, data integration, processing, and presentation within Power BI tool.
- Experience with self-service data tools/Programming language: Alteryx, Python, ETL, etc., are value-added assets

**WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL**
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Understand and document data flows and system interactions
- Ability to be flexible when needed, take initiative, and demonstrate accountability
- Intermediate interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well within a team environment and participate in department/team projects
- Ability to translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions
- Basic negotiating and persuasion skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to interpret business requirements and articulate them into models and concepts that plug into bigger scope projects
- Expertise with full software development life cycle including functional & technical specification, documentation, QA processes, source control, maintenance, and deployments
- Hands on coding skills using variety of programing languages
- Experience in transition role from programmer to business analyst (preferable)
- Expertise with relational databases and ability to navigate through relational data structure and experience working with SQL
- Experience with the use of business analysis practices and tools (e.g. MS Excel Pivot tables, MS Visio)
- Experience working with system integrations
