**Job Summary**

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for the daily management of on-floor activities at the Wellington Organix composting facility. Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of a team of compost production team members and collaborates with the Maintenance Supervisor’s supervisory tasks within their designated hours. The Operations Supervisor is expected to work an average of 44 hours per week, and when needed, be in communication for process management on weekends and during emergencies. As the Operations Supervisor, it is expected that all pertinent production and maintenance activities will be executed in compliance with all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental regulations. The incumbent must be a “hands-on”, “boots-on-the-floor” Supervisor amenable to learning all facets of the business.

**This position is considered a progression step towards an “Operations Manager” role, with Wellington Organix expectations of the incumbent actively pursuing this career path.**

**Duties and Responsibilities**

Daily communication of all relevant shift information to internal team including and not limited to:

- Production activities.
- Ongoing corrective maintenance.
- H&S issues.
- Process adjustments and issues.
- Environmental concerns.
- Housekeeping and other ongoing projects.

**Production**
- On floor management of compost production team members, including but not limited to shift scheduling, contract compliance and general training.
- On floor management of all production activities, including shredding, screening, process control and QA/QC.
- Collaboratively cover-off the functions of production team members as requested (vacation periods, illness, and emergency calls).
- Supervise in compliance with the Collective Agreement (as applicable).
- Ensure discipline reporting is completed in a timely manner as per AIM HR and H&S policy.

**H&S**
- Actively participate in H&S meetings.
- Attend City initiated meetings as assigned.
- Lead floor stand-up/toolbox meetings.
- Actively foster and lead H&S on floor - regularly correcting infractions and educating operators and contractors.
- Participate and ensure completion of scheduled H&S inspections.
- Review all relevant documentation completed by shift operators and sign off.
- Complete all required H&S documentation.

**Process Management**

Actively manage composting process for all relevant considerations including:

- ECA Compliance.
- Compost Regulations.
- Odour Control.
- Regularly monitor SCADA system during shift and ensure response to calls from alarm dialer.
- Communicate all process adjustments.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives including the collection of process data and provide input on process change.

**Maintenance**
- Collaboratively ensure resource needs (crew, parts, equipment etc.) are addressed to cover-off all maintenance activities always.

**Environmental**
- Know and follow all ECA requirements.
- Educate operators on ECA requirements and ensure compliance.
- Actively manage ECA compliance on floor - correcting infractions and educating operators and contractors as required.
- Complete all required ECA related documentation.
- Manage sample collection(s) as per protocol including chain of custody, and shipping of sample materials.

**Customer Service**
- Ensure site is maintained clean at all times to AIM expectations and exceeding those of the City of Guelph.
- Actively manage housekeeping on site - removing garbage, collaboratively managing tool, parts and equipment storage.
- Collaboratively work with Marketing team ensuring finished compost product moves out on schedule.

**Qualifications**:

- 3+ years’ of related experience in a proven leadership role.
- Completion of Post-Secondary Education and/ or other Technical Training.
- Completion of a recognized training program including Hazard awareness, Health & Safety, and equipment safety training.
- Knowledge of PLC systems and SCADA control is considered an asset.
- Experience in Environmental, Waste Management and/or Compost is considered an asset.
- CRSP, NCSO or other applicable recognized H&S Certification(s) are considered an asset.

- Strong computer skills with ability to learn new software systems.

**Working Conditions**:

- Hours will be 44 regular hours.
- Individual is required to work daily in Composting production areas indoors and outdoors (all seasons) and administration environments.
