**PROGRAM INFORMATION**:
This position will be part of the Family Mental Wellness Program (FMWS) which is a cross-agency initiative between Boyle Street Community Services (BSCS), Aboriginal Consulting, Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, Multicultural Health Brokers, and Native Counselling Services that provides collaborative mental wellness services to families with Child and Family Services involvement. The FMWP aims to support better access to mental health specialists and other mental health supports.
**JOB PURPOSE**:
The Mental Wellness Outreach Worker (MWOW) works in partnership with young adults (age 18 - 25) who have been involved with Children’s Services to create client-determined wellness plans. The program uses a wellness wheel as a core document to assess wellness. The MWOW supports a caseload of young adults to access and maintain supports that improve their mental and holistic wellbeing.
**KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Actively build and establish relationships with clientele.
- Meet with young adults in their community, schools or their homes and some support with transportation/attendance of important appointments
- Lead efforts to develop a warm, friendly and inviting environment in the larger community Centre, Ubuntu program, and C5
- Provide mental health resource connections, wellness planning, supportive counselling, life skills development and assistance with basic needs (income, shelter, food, clothing, transportation, legal, identification, and medical services) to clients on caseload.
- Enhance client’s connection to, and knowledge of, community resources.
- Provide multi-disciplinary case planning/ service planning as needed with Edmonton and Area Child and Family Services and other collaborating agencies.
- Provide support in addiction management including treatment referrals.
- Provide crisis intervention services as needed; including follow-up services until crisis situation has stabilized.
- Support community members with information, education and strategies around mental health, wellness and diagnosis.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive written documentation, according to Boyle Street’s systems and standards, regarding all client interaction
- Participate in agency responsibilities including but not limited to: staff meetings, Reflections, representing the agency at community meetings, safety and security monitoring, and other related duties.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the program supervisor.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Experience and Education**- A minimum of two years’ experience delivering services to people facing multiple barriers, including mental illness and substance use.
- Experience working with young adults.
- Criminal Record and Child and Youth Information Systems check required.
- Valid Driver’s License (Full class 5 or GDL for more than 3 years) and Abstract with no major license suspensions and reliable vehicle.
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR Certification

- Keen understanding of the needs and challenges facing marginalized populations particularly mental health, wellness and addiction issues.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of poverty related issues, trends and services.
- Have understanding of harm
- reduction, client-focused and strength-based practices and theories.
- Experience in networking with a range of departments, partners and stakeholders, both externally and internally.
- Outstanding understanding of mental health, illness, substance use and services in area.
- Good working knowledge of child development and other considerations within all the life stages
- Good working knowledge of Children Services, Service Alberta, Alberta Human Services, Alberta Health Services and Alberta Justice and Solicitor General.
- Able to work in a fast paced, stressful environment and deal with difficult, sometimes abusive, clients.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, SharePoint or other data entry systems.
- Able to walk, stand, sit, drive, reach, lift, climb stairs, pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching and squatting may be required sometimes.
