**As Housing Outreach Worker (HOW), you will assist persons served in securing housing and securing the financial benefits which make housing sustainable and participating in case management. You provide resources to aid in housing sustainability through a collaborative exploration of a person’s strengths and barriers. This includes supporting the person served in finding and securing appropriate housing, mentoring the person to develop skills for positive landlord relationships and tenancy under the Residential Tenancy Act and providing resources for housing start-up necessities. As a Housing Outreach Worker within the Youth Housing First Team you will be working with participants aged 16-24.**

**Key Accountabilities**:
**Housing Outreach**
- Work with Property Managers and Landlords to develop relationships and understanding of the community need to provide rental opportunities to youth.
- Provide support using a person centered, trauma sensitive and harm reduction framework**.**:

- Use intake, assessment, and referral skills and tools to assist in exploring strengths and barriers to obtaining housing.
- Assist in navigating and accessing the appropriate funding bodies available for Albertans.
- Coach and model for healthy relationships with landlords and other service providers.
- Utilize agency and community resources to assist persons served in setting up housing.
- Community visits: accompany and/or transport persons served to appointments, cultural events and activities.

**Short-term Case Management**
- Develop trust based relationships with persons served.
- Provide support and guidance to persons served as they transition into housing.
- Work to create interim goals and action plans while attempting to secure housing.
- Provide support to access income and service referrals within the community.
- Assist in making connections within their new community.
- Plan for successful program exit through support and warm transfer to Housing Support Worker.
- Due to changing caseloads and program requirements, housing support work may be assigned as required.

**Administration**
- Develop and maintain a database of landlord contacts.
- Collect data and input as required for reporting purposes.
- Be familiar and abide by e4c policies and procedures.
- Other duties may be assigned as required.

**Education and Certifications**

**Education**
- Degree or Diploma in Child and Youth Care (CYC), Social Work, Human Services, or related field.

**Certification**
- Suicide Intervention.
- Standard First Aid and CPR.
- Police Check with Vulnerable Sector.
- Intervention Record Check.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Proof of vehicle insurance minimum $2 million liability, registration and 3 year drivers abstract.

**Experience**
- 1+ year of experience working with marginalized populations, high risk and vulnerable populations.
- Experience working with youth would be considered an asset.
- Previous experience within the social services sector.
- Previous experience working with Indigenous populations.
- Working knowledge of harm reduction sexual exploitation, abuse and trauma, addictions, mental health, homelessness, inner city, and indigenous culture.
- Demonstrated experience de-escalating crisis and potentially violent situations with individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol, under extreme stress &/or struggling with acute/chronic mental health crises.
