- **JOB SUMMARY**_

The Victim Response Coordinator (VRC) is a front-line case-management role that works directly with victims and survivors of human trafficking. This position will require an individual who is able to jump in feet first, protect their personal boundaries with clients, and work both independently and collaboratively with the Victim Services Team. As an accredited social worker, they are well-versed in the standards of practice and regulations under the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
- **DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**_

**Primary Responsibilities**:
**a) **Provide case management and victim services to persons who have experienced human trafficking. This includes, but is not restricted to, the following responsibilities:

- Offer client-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive services;
- Coordinate response teams, case conferences, meetings, and case debriefs;
- Empower individuals to access available resources by contacting or phoning supports directly, or searching for information online;
- Provide support during crisis/emergency situations by utilizing de-escalation techniques and/or motivational interviewing skills as appropriate;
- Help clients to directly meet immediate needs, including food security, financial support, and social inclusion by means of education or direct referrals; and
- Assist clients in meeting their medical and social needs in the community, including transportation and support with external appointments.

**b) **Develop relationships and response practices with stakeholders across various sectors and communities in Alberta, as approved by management.  Gather stakeholder and client feedback to identify promising practices and gaps/barriers for supporting trafficked persons.

**c)** Support in the collection of data for various programs connected to human trafficking; report on trends and collect data on human trafficking in the community (using ACT Alberta's database).

**d) **Support ACT’s standards of practice by working within a person-centered and trauma-informed framework and using harm-reduction philosophies to meet clients where they are today.

- **QUALIFICATIONS **_

**Professional Designation**:

- Active registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACWS).

**Education and Experience**:

- Minimum diploma or bachelor’s degree in social work. A master’s degree would be considered an asset.
- 2-3 years of casework experience with individuals with complex needs.
- A Class 5 non-GDL driver’s license, a clean driver’s abstract, and a personal vehicle that can be used for work purposes with $2 million liability insurance are required.
- Standard First Aid would be considered an asset.

**Physical Requirements**:

- Ability to travel throughout Alberta, including some overnight and multi-day trips. Occasional driving as part of work duties.
- Ability to access rural areas that may include unpaved areas/roads/pathways. Occasional time outside in all weather conditions.
- Continuous extended periods of sitting, standing, or walking (sometimes up or down stairwells).

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Experience with Indigenous communities and knowledge of the Treaty 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10 regions of Alberta is critical. These regions include the traditional unceded territory of the Cree, Blackfoot, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway/ Saulteaux/Anishinaabe, and Inuit peoples, as well as the Métis People of the surrounding eight Métis Settlements and the Métis Nation of Alberta.
- Comfort meeting individually with participants in the community, in a broad variety of settings, with a safety-first mindset.
- Understanding of human trafficking and related issues; experience working on complex social issues and gender-based violence.
- Non-violent crisis intervention, trauma-informed practice, and harm-reduction philosophies are necessary to be successful in this role.
- Ability to speak a second language is an asset.
