The Office of Health Ethics at London Health Sciences Centre invites applicants for a one-year fellowship in Applied Health Ethics starting in May 2024. A second-year extended fellowship may be available to the successful fellow.

The Office of Health Ethics provides clinical, organizational, and research ethics support to University Hospital, Victoria Hospital, and Children’s Hospital. In addition, we provide services to a number of regional Long-Term Care Homes. The fellowship provides opportunities to work with our partners including Western University’s Research Ethics Office, The Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, and the School of Health Studies.

The purpose of the fellowship is to prepare future practicing healthcare ethicists to be competent in clinical and organizational ethics consultation, with sufficient background and experience in research ethics and teaching to provide a foundation for future development. The follow will be provided with opportunities to engage with ethical consults as they arise across a breadth of medical sub-specialities.

Fellows are expected to begin development of one academic paper intended for publication during the program. The program will use the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities Core Competencies as a framework for evaluation.

- Temporary Full-Time
- Rate of Pay: $25.65 per hour
- Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week
- Duration: 1 year contract (Beginning May 2024)

**Qualifications**:

- Successful completion of a Master's degree in Bioethics or related field
- Preferred academic training and experience in a regulated health profession
- Demonstrated advanced communication skills
- Moderate fluency in basic principles of biomedical ethics, ethical theories, and differing professional conceptions
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence
- Ability to function independently and to provide ethics leadership
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to change
- Advanced ability to handle competing demands with strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to contribute to a positive and safe work environment
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to health equity and inclusion
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care

**Immunization Requirements**:
Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:

- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);
- Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
