You will have a strong fundamental accounting base, and you will have developed well-honed critical thinking skills that allow you to manage dynamic reporting needs to a myriad of stakeholders, including donors, funders and the Board of Directors. Reporting to the VP Finance, **CUPS Controller**, is responsible for all aspects of the reporting function, internal controls, and audit function for CUPS. The role oversees the organization’s insurance, risk management policies and controls. The Controller works with and supports departmental directors and the executive management team, in their analytical needs regarding actual/budget/forecast reviews. CUPS Controller will provide leadership and direction to the finance team leads, providing coaching and support for leader development and sustainment of high functioning and trauma-informed work environment.
**Leadership**:
- As lead and advisor on all matters finance, the Controller collaborates with the Senior Leadership Team, creating strategies to ensure superior execution of CUPS financial management, reporting, and risk mitigation.
- The Controller will provide direct supervision to the leaders of CUPS Finance team and maintain oversight to ensure the execution of exemplar financial management
- Create goals, objectives, initiatives and action plans that are aligned with the organizational strategic plan and are deployed in coordination with other departments within CUPS
- Provide strategic direction and leadership for finance team members, developing and maintaining a high performing accounting team capable of managing the dynamic and diverse nature of nonprofit accounting needs.
- Promote a culture that reflects CUPS purpose, ambition and values.
**Organizational Alignment and Performance**:
- Accountable for reviewing, analyzing, and modifying appropriate business processes and internal controls, to record financial transactions effectively and efficiently, thereby safeguarding organizational assets.
- Develop and maintain a compassionate, professional and effective finance team via effective recruitment, training, performance management and engagement strategies
- Ensure appropriate processing and recording of financial transactions, meeting audit and regulatory requirements. Oversight includes day-to-day accounting (AP, AR, banking, fixed assets, etc.), maintenance of accounting systems, and monthly review of general ledger accounts and reconciliations, for accurate and timely monthly close.
- Manage financial data and reporting for the organization, assisting with month-end financial statement packages for SLT, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory reporting and remittances, including GST returns, T3010 return, StatsCan, and other regulatory agencies as needed.
- Oversee the development of the annual operating budgets for all areas; monitor revenues and expenditures compared to budgets, throughout the year, in order to provide critical management information to senior decision-makers.
- Partner with management and relevant staff throughout the organization to establish revenue and expense projections, monitor adherence to operating budget targets, identify surpluses in a timely manner, and provide financial analysis to operations leaders, to aid decision-making. Discuss large variances with VP Finance if action is required.
- Monitor cash requirements and investments policies, to ensure sustainability of operations and maximization of returns, within our conservative investment framework.
- Support the goals and objectives of the Society by developing and delivering materials on planning and budgeting office policies and procedures.
