Scott Springfield Mfg. Inc. (“SSM”) is a tier-1 supplier that offers scalable air handling solutions for commercial and industrial customers across North America. Supported by a network of independent sales agents across North America, SSM operates three production facilities within the Calgary area. To support its growth and expansion, SSM is looking to add a Controller to the team.

**Position Overview**:
**Responsibilities Include**:
**Financial Reporting and Compliance**:

- Prepare and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (including income statement, balance sheet and cash flow) in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with the global accounting policies
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards, regulatory changes, and best practices.

**Accounting Operations**:

- Oversee operations of the Canada accounting team, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
- Ensure design of an organization structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives, while focusing on development of employees to build a high-performing team with strong employee engagement.
- Manage the month-end accounting close process to ensure accurate and timely reporting under US GAAP, while continually working to strengthen the close process and gain efficiencies to shorten the cycle.
- Be a collaborative partner with and build/maintain strong relationships with functional teams including operations, engineering, sales, IT, HR and finance.

**Tax Compliance**:

- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns and compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
- Oversee tax planning and strategy, including potential impacts of cross-border operations.

**System and Process Improvement**:

- Drive process and system improvement and best practices as it relates to accounting processes, controls and reporting focusing on improving the accuracy, efficiency and timeliness of the information and services provided.
- Implement new accounting technologies and tools as needed.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting, with U.S. GAAP relevant experience.
- Proven experience in managing financial reporting and compliance within a public company environment.
- Strong understanding of SEC reporting requirements and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor a team effectively.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and facilitation, and change management skills with the ability to lead and communicate effectively among various levels of the organization.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Disciplined self-starter with excellent organizational skills with proven ability to work independently, confidentially and with limited direction.
- Experience with ERP systems and financial software; proficiency in Hyperion Financials, INFOR VISUAL Manufacturing is a plus.
