Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.


**Position Overview**:
Reporting to the Chief Technologist, Laboratory Scientist and/or Medical Director, the incumbent performs a variety of technical duties that support research, method development, and quality improvement projects at Cadham Provincial Laboratory.

The incumbent is responsible for the implementation of new laboratory methods, organizes and maintains data in a manner consistent with research principles, and provides technical support and training to laboratory staff.

The incumbent assists with the preparation of documents, such as operating procedures, verification/validation reports, research ethics board submissions, and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.

**Experience**:

- Minimum of three years of recent related experience required with demonstrated expertise in research methods essential.

**Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)**:

- Ph.D. in biology, microbiology, genetics, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from a recognized University, required.

**Qualifications and Skills**:

- Knowledge of laboratory technique and theory essential.
- Knowledge of biology, microbiology, and/or genetics essential.
- Knowledge of statistics, epidemiology and/or bioinformatics desired.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices in a laboratory setting essential.
- Ability to perform laboratory techniques appropriate to the research project.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions essential.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential.
- Computer literacy essential, including the ability to perform searches of online resources, including scientific literature databases.
- Strong interpersonal skills essential and ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent organizational skills essential.
- Ability to work independently and follow detailed instruction essential.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment essential.
- Strong computer skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel) essential.

**Physical Requirements**:

- Work will be performed in an office setting and in the microbiology laboratory.
- Exposure to all hazards and dangers associated with a microbiology laboratory. For more information, refer to the Job Hazard Analysis Assessment of this position. Must be able to work under pressure and deal effectively with competing demands and deadlines.**This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.**
