EarlyON Toy Library Co-Ordinator - Part-Time

PURPOSE

Are you looking for a great part-time job with purpose and community connections? The Parent Resource Centre’s Toy Library is looking for a new coordinator to keep this vital community hub vibrant and valuable for local families.

The EarlyON Toy Library Co-Ordinator is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the Parent Resource Centre’s (PRC) Toy Lending Library for families with children 0-6. This includes managing open borrowing sessions, organizing toys and lending materials while maintaining accurate tracking and inventory of Toy Lending Library items, along with lending material maintenance. The Toy Library Co-Ordinator will also use their knowledge of early childhood development offering support to families on toy selection and use, responding to parenting questions, and sharing information on the Parent Resource Centre's programming and relevant community resources.

The EarlyON Toy Library Co-Ordinator plays an important role in the ongoing programing of the PRC’s EarlyON Child and Family Centre, contributing to the day-to-day operations of the EarlyON Program and ensuring a positive experience for children and their families. They enhance community connections by developing, implementing and overseeing accessible programs and services that support the developmental needs of young children and provide parents with supports and resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Support
- Support families in selecting developmentally appropriate toys for their children
- Order, catalogue, manage, maintain and organize stock of Toy Lending Library materials
- Support the growth and evolution of the Toy Lending Library by advising on new toys for purchase that will enhance the interactive play and engagement of the emotional, social and cognitive development of children
- Greet and register new clients and provide initial orientation to Toy Library and additional programs and services
- Promote the Toy Lending Library in coordination with the Communications team across the Ottawa area to parents, schools, community and partner organizations
- Train and support staff and volunteers on Toy Library practices and protocols
- Establish inviting and welcoming inclusive environments for children and families
- Establish relationships and recognize needs of clients offering additional information on internal and external community resources and supports as needed
- Encourage and support positive parent-child/caregiver-child interactions through trusting relationships and environmental design
- Assess children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive learning needs and adjust responses and interactions accordingly and with consideration to observed interests
- Provide supportive practical assistance and resources on parenting and child development
- Keep current with parenting, caregiving and child development best practices while implementing programming in accordance with How Does Learning Happen: Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years
- Cultivate and model equitable practices respecting, accepting, and celebrating diversity
- Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice
- Collaborate with team to plan programming, share relevant information, and ensure all programming tasks are being met
- Support EarlyON playgroups as needed including registering new EarlyON clients, facilitating playgroup, and leading circle time

Administrative Duties
- Register families/caregivers and track toy lending through ResourceMate database
- Register new clients into oneHSN database when supporting EarlyON playgroups
- Ensure client confidentiality
- Gather and report statistical information as needed
- Access files and utilize resources on internal agency shared drives
- Liaise with Director of Early Learning and perform other related duties as required
- Keeps all EarlyON program related materials, manuals and handbooks up-to-date

Community Development & Partnerships
- Promote PRC, its mission and services within the community
- Review and support the development of social media and website content related to the program
- Foster community partnerships to support the growth of evidence-based parenting programs and services, particularly for high needs and priority populations
- Identify and develop resources and materials that will support EarlyON program quality and integrate them into program services and practices

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Experience, Skills and Abilities
- Minimum of 3 years' experience working with children
- Sound knowledge of child development and community resources
- Experience working with children and families and diverse populations
- Experience overseeing and facilitating groups
- Familiarity with the How Does Learning Happen Framework and Childcare and Early Years Act
- Understanding of attachment and trauma-informed care
- Sound knowledge of PRC programs and services
