NEC Native Education College is a large private Indigenous college in Vancouver and works with First Nations and Indigenous
organizations to deliver programs in locations throughout British Columbia. NEC works to strengthen Indigenous communities
through offering programs that lead to employment and higher learning. NEC is seeking a Cultural Advisor to join the Student
Services team to increase the wrap-around supports for NEC students. At NEC we are grounded in our Longhouse Values of Diversity,

**Position Summary**:
The successful individual of this position will provide holistic support to students through spiritual and cultural guidance, access to
ceremony, in one-to-one or group settings. The Cultural Advisor will help students achieve mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness
in a culturally authentic way modelling the Longhouse Values. The purpose is to help guide students to achieve their personal,
cultural, and academic aspirations with a strengths-based approach.

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a certificate in a Community Social Service or related program and two (2) years of recent, related

experience working with Indigenous individuals, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experienced in working with Indigenous individuals, communities and/or organizations related to cultural guidance and

wellness.
- Experience coordinating and delivering traditional wellness/medicine, and ceremony within community.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Indigenous history, rights, and healing modalities.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, computer use, and familiarity with office procedures are required.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- Lead by the Values of the Longhouse with humility.
- Create a welcoming environment for all students, staff, and guests of NEC.
- Connecting learners to cultural experiences and culturally inclusive services (individual, family, and/or group settings).
- Facilitating cultural activities and celebrating Indigenous ways of being.
- Oversight and co-management of community events like Orange Shirt Day, Pink Shirt Day, Indigenous Peoples Day,

Moosehide Campaign. Promoting healthy Indigenous lifestyles through exposure to a diverse cultural experience.
- Provide cultural and spiritual guidance to students through Indigenous ways knowing, being, seeing to hep them resolve or

overcome challenges and/or barriers with Oneself, Others, Community, Society, and Spirit in accordance with the Values of
the Longhouse.
- Prepare and facilitate discussions and storytelling to NEC staff or students in an open and supportive way in accordance

with Native Education College Strategic Plan.
- Seek out and create opportunities to engage students in ceremonial practices, and contribute to planning, and facilitation

thereof in a kind and gentle way.
- Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with Nations, community agencies and other relevant resources in

developing best care practices and increasing awareness and utilization of supports.
- Coordinate integration of cultural connections with other NEC Student Services and departments on site as required.
- Participate in annual planning and development processes to ensure continued quality and improvements in the

programming and cultural authenticity of NEC.
- Contribute to proposal writing, and funding initiatives to increase wellness programming for students; keep records for

reporting purposes following confidentiality of interactions within ethical standards of practice.
- Participate in professional development activities, regular Student Services and NEC meetings and serve on college

committees that support the goals and objectives of the college.
- Other Longhouse Duties as required.

**Terms**:
Appointment to this regular position will require a formal criminal record check, the details of which may preclude an offer of
employment being finalized. This position is open to male and female applicants. Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous
applicants.

**Hours**: 8:30 AM-4:30PM Monday to Friday
**Salary**: 43.37/hour as per Collective Agreement
