The Climate Resilience Planner will provide expert knowledge and project management for work related to the integration of climate risk assessment, climate adaptation planning, climate mitigation planning, into land use planning and development. In addition to developing or assisting in the development of policy and strategic direction, the Planner will prepare information and recommendations for Council and Committees, senior administration, the public, and other stakeholders.

- Act as project manager for environment and climate resilience projects
- Develop policy, strategy, and recommendations relating to a wide variety of climate resilience and environmental planning issues
- Provide technical advice on climate change, climate resilience, and land use planning matters, providing expertise, consultation, advice and information to internal and external stakeholders
- Review and advise on the development or amendments of plans and guiding documents for alignment with best practices in climate resilience planning
- Gather background information or performing research on specific topics related to climate change and urban planning
- Prepare briefing notes, reports, and presentations to provide responses to inquiries and motions, project updates, and recommendations to Council and Committees, senior administration, the public, and other stakeholders
- Lead consultants and technical staff working on projects, including managing the procurement process from start to finish
- Build, manage and maintain internal and external relationships, meeting to address issues or concerns as required
- Plan and facilitate internal engagement across relevant City departments to identify key issues and opportunities for cross-departmental coordination of climate resilience planning, policy review and development
- Performing or providing analytics in response to inquiries and support recommendations
- Perform other related duties as required
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, climate science, environmental science, urban studies, geography or a field related to the functions of this position; a master’s degree is an asset
- Membership, or eligibility for membership, in the Canadian Institute of Planners is an asset
- Four years of experience in land use and/or policy planning in the public and/or private sector that includes:
- Climate change planning policy development
- Land use planning
- Broad and demonstrated experience in handling projects
- Public and stakeholder engagement
- Advanced project management skills, including project scoping, determination of project outcomes and deliverables, preparation of requests for proposal, bid selection and award, contract management, time and cost controls, and project close out
- Detailed knowledge of the principles and practices of planning in general, and climate change/environmental planning
- Knowledge of climate science and the intersection of climate change and urban development; knowledge of applicable legislation, regulatory requirements and applicable governing policies and plans
- Ability to communicate complex information effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners and stakeholders and appropriately engage the public
- Excellent time management skills
- Knowledge of climate change information and research, and the ability to translate this technical information into meaningful information for multiple stakeholders
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and build personal networks across City departments, as well as with industry, government and community partners
