SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Category Manager will fulfill a hybrid role which consists of 3 days/week in category management and 2 days per week on the retail floor.

The Category Manager is responsible for the procurement and merchandising of Cannabis and Cannabis accessories in order to drive sales growth and maximize profits.

While maintaining a diverse product selection, the Category Manager will place product orders based on sales and consumer trends, maintaining the targeted inventory, margin targets and inventory levels.

The role is responsible for core and niche product selection, inventory management, product development, and the analysis and communication of market trends, consumer trends, and company strategy.

Communication with Store Managers and Wayfarers is crucial to the success of this role. The Category Manager will spend 3 days per week managing buying and procurement functions and 2 days per week as an active Wayfarer on the sales floor. Time spent interacting directly with guests is crucial in understanding consumer demand and trends.

The Category Manager will make regular store visits, host open Zoom hours, and present regular updates and results in management meetings.

DUTIES

Product Procurement

Account for every product that is in the store until it is purchased. The Category Manager is responsible for establishing a core sku base, all new listings, eliminating underperforming items, and providing our guests and teams with unique, seasonal and desirable options for every style of shopper.

Adding Inventory to POS

Support Store Managers in adding PO’s to POS, investigate discrepancies. Add invoices to BigChip for every added PO and/or transfers between stores (both Cannabis and Accessories).

Merchandising

Work in concert with the Director of Operations to ensure stores are merchandised consistently, maximize operational efficiency, shopability, and organization; and drive sales and productivity.

Data Analysis

Understand and communicate product trends, consumer trends, our competition, historical data, and department history to maximize our wins and minimize losses.

Partnerships

Build mutually beneficial, respectful, and professional relationships with LPs and sales representatives so we become the preferred retail group to work with

Communication

Responsible for ongoing communication with the individual stores. This includes but is not limited to product shortages, unique orders, information regarding new and upcoming products, product awareness and education, motivations and reasoning behind changes.

Inventory Management

Manage store inventory through effective planning and sales forecasting. This is the actionable follow-up of historical and current sales data analysis.

Product Pricing

Set all pricing in order to demonstrate great value to our guests while driving profitability. Product pricing will be reviewed frequently and adjusted based on the price elasticity of demand. All promotional and seasonal pricing will also be set in order to drive sales, guest counts, and profitability.

Collaboration

Work in tandem with Regional Managers and Store Managers by sharing objectives, insight, wins, goals, and help support and guide when needed.

Online presence consistency

Make sure Dutchie is updated for each store and provides consistent information.

KPIs

Operating Profit

Increase overall operating profit through strategic purchasing practices; price management based on the elasticity of demand; vendor negotiations; and product selection to drive traffic and basket size.

Inventory Management

Effectively manage the store's inventory to limit overstock and inventory value while minimizing product shortages.

Store support and visits

Visit stores bi-monthly.

Responsible for merchandising and product selection for all store openings.

Display Merchandising

Work with the director of operations and store managers and to coordinate in-store displays and planograms based on sale opportunities, seasonal products, and products needing increased sales.

Gross Margin

Plan and execute a strategy to ensure that the margin meets or exceeds the budget.

**REQUIREMENTS**:
Previous retail buying experience

2+ years experience in a legal cannabis retail environment

Previous leadership experience is an asset
