**Brief Overview**:

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Report to the MN-S Deputy Chief, Legal and Senior General Counsel.
- Support specific strategic priorities of the MN-S.
- Deal with clients directly to obtain information and answer client queries.
- Conduct research of records, court files and other legal documents
- Assist lawyers with assembling documentary evidence and arranging for trial/negotiations.
- Manage calendar to schedule trial dates, mediation, negotiation, appointments with legal team and clients.
- Manage electronic and paper client files, ensuring up-to-date client information in system.
- Monitor state of the law on matters affecting the rights and interests of the MN-S and its citizens.
- Collaborate with the Deputy Chief, Legal and Senior General Counsel, CEO, CSO, and COO to ensure all legal issues are handled efficiently, while respecting the highly privileged and confidential nature of the work.
- Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with stakeholders within or outside the Métis government to advance strategic objectives.
- Responsible for communicating effectively with the senior management team and providing all information necessary for effective and informed decision-making in a timely and accurate manner.
- Act in accordance with relevant legislation and MN-S policies, standards, and procedures.
- Ensure accuracy, confidentiality and safekeeping of information and records.
- Maintain and update legal databases, manuals, and periodicals.
- Additional duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Completion of a legal assistant or paralegal program, combined with 3-4 years of related experience.
- Knowledge of legal procedures and protocols and the principles, concepts, and methods of legal research and analysis is required.
- Paralegal experience working with in-house counsel would be considered an asset.
- Ability to learn and grow with the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan through our shared experiences.
- Advanced computer skills, including knowledge of Adobe and Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

**Knowledge and Skills**:

- Knowledge and understanding of Métis culture, history, citizens, and communities will be an asset.
- Always maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively and confidently to all levels of the organization.
- Self-motivated creative and strategic thinker with demonstrated attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and multitask within calendar and deliverable deadlines.
- The ability to work on-site and navigate an evolving, changing work environment.
- Knowledge of project management and scheduling software.
- Strong communication skills, including speaking, writing, and active listening skills.
- Strong time-management skills with the ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks.
- Willingness to work within a team environment.
- Skills in general administrative functions, including accurate typing, filing, ordering office supplies, maintaining office supplies and equipment.
- Excellent work attendance.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in difficult situations.
- Knowledge of terminology, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling used in the legal field.

**Additional Requirements**:

- Must undergo a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and reliable transportation.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $55,000.00-$77,681.00 per year
