The City of Port Moody is looking for its next talented and experienced Manager of Recreation to join the Community Services team.

Under the direction of the General Manager of Community Services, this position will lead the Recreation Division, including managing all day-to-day activities and operations, coaching and mentoring staff, maintaining and strengthening community partnerships, and leading divisional strategic and business planning to meet the City’s goal of delivering programs and services that enhance community well-being. The Manager of Recreation will be a key part of the departmental leadership team.

This position manages recreational programs and services at various facilities throughout the city including recreation centers, pools, and ice surfaces; ensures adherence to health and safety procedures; and creates and administers the budget for the division. This position works closely with the Manager of Facilities to ensure all services and programs are considered in facility maintenance, repair, and janitorial works. The Manager of Recreation is responsible to act as the Deputy Director of Emergency Support Services (ESS) where this service coordination is required. Attendance at Council and Committee meetings to advise on programs, policy, and facility information will be required, along with the preparation and presentation of associated reports.

You are a proven leader and an accomplished professional with experience in recreation management within the public sector. You have strong strategic planning, communication, and facilitation skills, with an ability to anticipate and meet the ongoing recreational needs of the community. This is complemented by demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills within a unionized environment, along with a collaborative and creative management style that fosters open communication and inclusion.

You hold a relevant bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience in a managerial role within a recreation environment. You have good knowledge of local government bylaws, regulations and policies that affect recreation services. Emergency preparedness and Emergency Support Services training would be an asset.
