Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the Manager of Recreation will be responsible for leading the recreation programs in the City, including beach and marina operations. The Manager of Recreation will work in collaboration with city departments, community organizations, industry stakeholders, third party providers and affiliates to deliver exceptional and inclusive recreational programing and experiences.

In doing so, The Manager of Recreation addresses current needs and anticipates future needs through tactical planning that aligns with the City’s strategic plan and uses evidence-based decision making with an eye to continuous improvement while implementing leading practices. The Manager of Recreation must demonstrate a strong commitment to public service and recognize while this is a strategic role it is equally a hands-on position.

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Organize, schedule and administer all recreational programs, including arena usage and assigned events, in collaboration with public works staff.
- Work with community sport associations to grow recreational and competitive sport.
- Through collaboration with the City’s Cultural Block (Museum and Library) and Tourism and Events, expand recreational opportunities beyond traditional sport.
- Provide and communicate recreational opportunities (YMCA, seniors and community associations).
- Manage short and long-term facility leases ranging from pavilion rentals related to revenue generation to land leases related to the City’s lease at Nickel Beach.
- Facilitate vendor agreements for services such as the Vale Health and Wellness Centre canteen and food trucks in parks and along trails.
- Transparently communicate recreational facility availability and usage and develop and implement plans to grow usage.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of the recreational and parks master plan, including measurement of progress and success.
- Select, train, direct, motivate, supervise and evaluate customer service personnel.
- Develop mechanisms to monitor recreation and park usage and user total experience.
- Together with stakeholders, be an advocate for inclusive recreation.
- Develop and monitor the recreation budgets with an emphasis on value for money, evidenced based rate setting and a focus of growing net revenue opportunities.
- Where applicable, manage recreational billing, accounts receivable and collections.
- Supports community and city run events throughout the year in both planning and execution.
- Keep abreast of current developments and emerging trends in recreation by maintaining active engagement with community, recreational and sport associations and through active participation in conferences, workshops, professional organizations and research/literature.
- Develop and implement appropriate risk management procedures and protocols.
- Any other duties as assigned.

This non-unionized position offers a salary range of $100,142.26 - $117,166.07, based on 35 hours per week, as well as a competitive compensation package.
