**Job Description - Volunteer Coordinator**

National Service Dogs (NSD) is a registered charity based in Cambridge, ON Canada, specializing in training Service Dogs for individuals with autism or PTSD and Canine Assisted Intervention Dogs for a diverse group of clients.

**REPORTS TO**: Director of Operations

**HOURS**: 37.5 hrs/week from the NSD office unless in the field working with NSD volunteers/community. Some evening and weekend work required

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Organizational**
- Performs other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of National Service Dogs
- Operates within the culture and core values of the organization

**Volunteer Coordinator**
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with volunteers and community partners
- Organize and coordinate the Volunteer Appreciation program - including Grief and Loss, Social Outings and volunteer events
- Develop and implement an ongoing volunteer recruitment and retention strategy
- Recruit, assess, interview, and orient new volunteers
- Assess, Onboard, train and retain volunteers
- Ensure all contracts and forms are signed by volunteers and are accurately filed.
- Engage in effective/interactive communication with staff and volunteers on a timely basis
- Develop and evaluate new avenues for volunteer recruitment
- Maintain accurate files and records (databases, and Excel spreadsheets)
- Divest appropriate volunteers to programs of interest within the organization
- Provide/organize orientations and/or training for new volunteers
- Supervise and assist volunteers outside direct programs
- Track volunteer hours and maintain active volunteer database
- Maintain current and accurate volunteer records
- Coordination and scheduling of volunteer opportunities
- Ongoing evaluation of volunteer program, processes and opportunities
- Collection and reporting of Volunteer program metrics
- Performs other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of National Service Dogs

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES**:

- Two years of experience in a Volunteer Coordination role
- Experience handling dogs is an asset
- Service Dog industry knowledge is an asset
- BSc/BA, social studies/sciences or an equivalent mix of education and experience
- Ability to interact and support volunteers, staff, clients, management and the public in a variety of situations
- Strong interview and assessment skills
- Skill and competence in the use of personal computers including, but not limited to, GOOGLE Suite and working knowledge of databases and MS Office (especially Excel)
- Experience in volunteering locally and/or internationally
- Experience in recruiting through various channels
- Able to communicate effectively with diverse people
- Excellent organizational and team coordination abilities
- A pleasant, outgoing personality
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Ability to set priorities and use good judgment
- Comfortable with public speaking
- A valid driver's license and insurable
