Title: Recreation Assistant

Department: Community Programs

Pay Grid: Professional ($20.90 to 29.45 per hour)

Status: Full-Time Regular ( up to 56 hours)

Reporting to: Recreation Manager

**Summary of Duties**:
Under the direction of the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Assistant is responsible for helping with planning and running Recreation programs. They will be required to help facilitate youth programs and report back to the Recreation department.

**Key Deliverables and Expectations**:

- Assist with the Play Program and Youth Soccer.
- Open and monitor the weekly Recreation program schedule.
- Provide a safe & enjoyable experience to participants, visitors and volunteers by adhering to all safety & emergency procedures.
- Build positive relations with program participants, parents, team members and the public.
- Keep updated records and provide activity reports to the Recreation Manager.
- Manage the registration process and logistics related to day activities.
- Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies, including proper follow up reporting.
- Act as a direct liaison with sports instructors and parents.
- Conduct daily safety checks of program equipment & facilities.
- Perform other related duties as requested.

**Experience and Attributes**:

- Previous experience working with youth or in the recreation field is an asset.
- Previous experience as a participant or facilitator of youth programs is an asset.
- Coaching and First Aid training will be provided.
- Ability to analyze situations, plan, organize, and research.
- Ability to follow instructions and to maintain working relations with fellow employees and the public.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
- Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail and time management skills.
- Able to work independently and as an integral member of various teams.
- Motivated self-starter with strong interpersonal skills.
- Able to meet deadlines, prioritize, multi-task and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint),
- Available for various shifts, including evenings, some weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Records Check including vulnerable sector.
- Class 5 driver's license and reliable vehicle considered an asset.
