The Public Safety and Security Division is comprised of the following Units:

- Policing Strategies;
- Crime Prevention;
- Public Safety Investigations;
- Corporate Security;
- Provincial Firearms Program;
- Security Programs Office; and
- Service Dog Program.

**About Our Opportunity**:
Reporting to a Public Safety and Policing Advisor, the Research & Stat Officer 3 will provide key support that assists the Department in delivering its vision, mission, and mandate.

Part of a team of professionals, the successful applicant will play a crucial role helping ensure that the PSSD has accurate, reliable, and timely information, based on the most relevant available data and/or policies from internal and external sources.

The opportunity requires an individual who is comfortable working within an organizational hierarchy and following instructions from those they report to. It also requires someone capable of tactfully communicating with senior officials, and who possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.

**Primary Accountabilities**:
As a Research & Stat Officer 3, you will:

- Play a critical role in the collection, organization, synthesis, analysis, and reporting-up of data and other information gathered from multiple sources;
- Help prepare reports, presentations, and briefing materials for senior leadership;
- Assist with a broad range of Division-wide initiatives that require a thorough understanding of associated issues and priorities;
- Support policy and program review through statistical analysis; and
- Monitor key indicators, conduct environmental scans, and research policy directions, regulations, and practices in other jurisdictions within the context of divisional programs.

Work-related duties will also include ones that are more administrative in nature, such as data entry and liaising with interested parties to gather or disseminate requested information.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
You have a bachelor’s degree plus 4 years of related experience analyzing quantitative data, or a master’s degree plus 2 years of related experience. You also possess strong research, analytical and organizational skills, and your employment experience must include having worked in a role that required you to protect the confidentiality of sensitive information.

The following are considered assets:

- Knowledge of and experience with additional specific data-analytic software packages including Tableau, SPSS, NVivo, and MySQL;
- Knowledge of and experience with the JavaScript programming language;
- Knowledge of and experience with inferential and/or Bayesian statistics; and
- Knowledge of and experience with Adobe Designer (aka Adobe Experience Manager - Forms, formerly Adobe LiveCycle).

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: interview(s); written assignment(s); supervised examination of proficiency analyzing data and/or policy; and reference checks.

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered.

**Working Conditions**:
Most of your time is spent in a comfortable office setting and may involve sitting for long periods of time. Travel throughout the province may be required. Your normal work week is 35 hours/week. You may be required to work overtime on occasion.
