Building and maintaining our provincial infrastructure is no small job.

At the Department of Public Works (DPW), we manage 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways and 4,100 bridges across Nova Scotia as well as 2,400 buildings. We also support community and active transportation - connecting people and their communities. In the Policy and Corporate Services Division at DPW, we are responsible for researching, analyzing, and recommending proposals that impact road safety, building construction and the economic well being of the transportation industry, and the shippers who rely on it, both within the province and between the province and its various national and international markets. The division also works closely with crown corporations of their reporting requirements and Executive Council Office in submitting documentation to Treasury and Policy Board and Executive Council.

**About Our Opportunity**:
As the Policy Analyst, you provide a wealth of expertise to policy research, analysis and synthesis regarding a broad range of transportation and infrastructure issues impacting the Province. These issues relate to all modes of transportation (air, marine, rail, and road), as well as Registry of Motor Vehicles and other divisions within the Department.

**Primary Accountabilities**:
You will have opportunity to work on a variety of assignments in relation to transportation and infrastructure issues; all the while supporting Senior Policy Advisors and the Director. In this role you will directly impact Nova Scotia’s transportation climate by:

- Providing research and policy development support on strategic transportation initiatives;
- Preparing reports, proposals, briefing notes, responses to enquiries and presentations;
- Formulating, reviewing and developing articulate government and department policies; and
- Assessing the overall effectiveness of the Department's policies, plans, programs, and initiatives.

We will often call on your expertise to provide advice and assistance to other Departments and Divisions on matters pertaining to transportation and infrastructure. You will often represent the Department and/or Province on interdepartmental, divisional and regional team projects and committees.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
You possess a Bachelor’s degree plus five (5) years' related experience; or a Master’s degree plus three (3) years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Frequent travel is a component of this position, as such, you must have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel. In addition, you must demonstrate experience with:

- Public policy;
- Collecting, assessing, analyzing, and presenting information; and
- Current key provincial and national policies, programs and plans.

You must demonstrate a good understanding of how regulation, policies and programs may affect industry, NGO’s (Non-Governmental Organizations) and community sectors.

Though not required, it is desirable if you have experience in the transportation sector.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

**Equivalency**:
An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Equivalencies include, but are not limited to:

- Completion of a 2-year diploma and 7 years of related experience

**Working Conditions**:
Most of your work is spent located in a comfortable office environment. Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.

**Salary Range**: $2,543.38 - $3,091.70 Bi-Weekly
