Edmonton, Canada Abbottsfield Youth Project (AYP) Society Full time

*Part-time - 4 month contract, with the possibility of an extension.*

**Job Purpose**:
To teach life skills such as self esteem, communication skills, peer relations, to 6 - 12 year old children using recreation and physical activities. Small group facilitation, one-to-ones, family support, advocacy and referrals are used to achieve program outcomes.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- **Group and or Activity Facilitation**_
- Creatively plan, organize, and evaluate small group and one-to-one activities on a daily basis with partner or with the team;
- Supervise participants during activities;
- Create a warm, caring and safe environment for group activities;
- Participate in establishing achievable program outcomes and employ group strategies and activities to achieve the same;
- Meet with participants on a one-to-one basis to help them achieve success with their goals;
- Build and maintain positive relationships with children in groups;
- Flexibly respond and address participant needs in groups;
- Plan and organize family activities for participants & families;
- Develop Intentional Growth Plan with input from the parent/guardian, child and own observations for each child;
- **Resource and Planning Development**_
- Identify and address gaps in curriculum;
- Participate in overall curriculum planning for all groups as a team;
- Seek out new activities/tools to teach curriculum topics;
- Work together to plan and implement curriculum topics in accordance to the needs of the children;
- Reflect on outcomes as they relate to the children and adjust activities and curriculum to reflect the needs of the group;
- Assist team members with evaluation of program success and implement changes as needed;
- **Communication Management**:_
- Secure informed consent from parents and child;
- Maintain objective contact notes related to child so as to ensure the overall growth and development is documented and measurable;
- Maintain attendance records;
- Maintain open and regular communication with school personnel, parents / guardians and child;
- Complete Intentional Growth Plan reports for children with recommendations for further growth and referrals to community services;
- Collect and document pre and post surveys on database so as to ensure outcomes for children are being achieved;
- Follow appropriate Privacy Legislation;
- Maintain confidentiality related to all participant information;
- Liaise and/or advocate with school personnel, parent/guardian, and child, as required;
- **Contributions to Team**_
- Contribute to team problem solving and discussions;
- Give and receive feedback;
- Participate in ongoing team activities;
- Respond to telephone / in person inquiries about the organization and services;
- Attend and participate in supervisory meetings with Executive Director;
- Identify individual professional development plan and work towards the identified goals;
- Maintain and participate in core training opportunities and others for professional development;
- **Marketing**_
- Professionally represent the organization to partners, users and potential partners / users of services;
- Identify and inform the Executive Director of gaps in services;
- Inform the community about the mandate of and programs offered by AYP;
- Engage in fundraising and community activities designed to increase the profile of AYP and increase funding for programs;
- Maintain a cooperative working relationship with other agencies and groups working in the community;
- **Implement the policies of the Board of Directors**_
- Responsible for understanding the mandate and policies of the organization including funding commitments and requirements;
- Read and sign the Personnel Policy;
- Complete and submit timesheets to the Executive Director;
- Implement all recommendations and/or directions of the Board of Directors or Executive Director;
- Perform other duties as assigned;

**Qualifications**:

- Possession of or working towards a degree or diploma in the Human / Social Services field;
- Extensive experience in group facilitation and working with children;
- Demonstrates leadership and strong understanding of child development;
- Knowledge of and comfort with the implementation of positive behavioural intervention strategies;
- Conflict management / resolution skills;
- Strong ability to work as a team;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to multi-task;
- Comfort with computers;
- Current certificates in Aboriginal Cultural Awareness, Suicide Intervention, Standard First Aid and CPR, and or a willingness to complete;
- Clear CYIM, Security Clearance, and Driver’s Abstract;
- Class 5 License and ability to drive;
- Caring, open, and friendly;
- Clear understanding of professional boundaries;
- Committed and passionate about children;
- Reliable;
- Fluent in a second language is an asset.
