Position Overview:
- This exciting role is one of two primary leads working in collaboration and consultation with young people, area residents, youth-related agencies, Neighbourhood Associations and stakeholders, to ensure that youth across the city of Kitchener have opportunities and access to recreation and leisure, leadership development, and civic engagement. This role provides leadership in the planning, development, coordination and implementation of City-wide youth programs, services, and resources, ensuring excellent service to impact overall youth well-being.**Responsibilities**:
- Consults and collaborates with young people, area residents, youth-related agencies, neighbourhood associations and stakeholders using a community development model.
- Develops, coordinates, administers, and evaluates quality opportunities for youth participation in recreation & leisure, civic engagement and/or leadership development programs and services.
- Specific functions include, but not limited to: program design, planning, implementation and evaluation, supplies and financial management, marketing, staff coordination, facilitation, communication with program stakeholders, volunteer recruitment and support, and customer service.
- Serves in a consultative role supporting Neighbourhood Associations, affiliated groups and internal divisions in their delivery of youth programs and/or corporate responses and initiatives related to youth.
- Develops resources, coordinates, and implements formal and informal training opportunities for internal municipal staff, volunteers & community groups, and external community partners as it pertains to positive youth development, youth engagement and/or youth programs and services.
- Assists with the recruitment, training and support of youth programming staff and youth volunteers. This includes coaching and mentoring.
- Acts as the primary resource person facilitator to the Kitchener Youth Action Council and related Action Groups and/or direct Youth Staff during program hours.
- Acts as a participant and member of the Program and Resource Services Team and numerous City Working Groups.
- Performs administrative duties associated with the Youth Coordinator position.
- Report writing, forms and manual development.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Requirements**:
- 2-year diploma in a related field or 2 years in a specialized post-secondary program in a related field.
- 2-4 years of recent related experience including 1-2 years direct experience in the following areas:

- Municipal youth recreation, civic engagement, and leadership programs - including the development, implementation, and evaluation of creative, inclusive, and exciting quality programs.
- Staff coordination experience in a municipal environment or youth program setting (recruiting, training, supporting, evaluating, and recognizing staff teams).
- Support to volunteers including recruitment, training, recognition.
- Willing to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Persons Police Records Check.
- Certified in Standard First Aid.
- Possess a valid MTO class "G" driver's license in good standing and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practice in positive youth development theory, youth engagement, physical and emotional literacy, and youth services in the community.
- Strong community development and facilitation skills.
- Proven organization, customer services and planning skills.
- An innovative and flexible thinker that understands and can respond to community trends with effective programs and services for youth.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and public relations skills.
- Conflict resolution and mediation skills and demonstrated experience problem solving both interactions.
- Strong facilitation, leadership and team building skills and experience.
- Program research, development, implementation, and evaluation skills.
- Working knowledge of risk management practices, policies and procedures for youth engagement and programming in a municipal setting.
- Awareness of social issues (housing, immigration, employment, racism, ageism etc.) and the socio-demographic trends associated with youth.
