**The Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Play Lead, Innovation Lab, you will plan, coordinate, and promote the children and youth-led Food Forest community gardens program with the Smart Waterloo Region Innovation Lab. You will focus on increasing opportunities for children and youth to participate in growing their community while also increasing access to sustainable food sources and developing food skills and social connections. You will lead the development, implementation, coordination, and administration of events, programming and educational materials, and grants and investments to community-led gardens and farming developments. You will work collaboratively with community groups, stakeholders, and program area leads to coordinate projects, understand community needs, and ensure deliverables are implemented.
You will supervise co-op students year-round.
You will have the responsibility of leading the community garden project which includes researching, planning, and developing the project framework, coordinating project activities, working with project partners and vendors to obtain, coordinate, and arrange products and services, including organizing learning events, group gardening sessions, student/volunteer participation, supplies, and maintenance.
You will work with and across multiple stakeholder groups to identify and implement tasks and activities and ensure goals, objectives, and timelines are met.
You will develop relationships with groups in the community and work collaboratively to better understand the specific needs of different groups, promote the program, and develop ideas and opportunities that can support project goals.
You will have the opportunity to lead engagement opportunities to determine community garden needs, such as establishing “land-matching” partnerships with landowners and community groups.
You will identify available grants to support landowners and local groups with installing new community garden builds.
You will identify and define project planning and implementation issues, needs, resources, and opportunities. You will work collaboratively with project partners to organize and coordinate efforts, collect, document, and maintain information, and identify gaps and reconcile variances in meeting requirements.
You will administer project grants and investments, including approving and coordinating payments or reimbursements, within set limits.
You will monitor and track project progress, provide information and status updates on project components, standards, processes, and expectations to project partners, management, staff, and other stakeholders.
You will have the opportunity to work in the development and implementation of communication strategies, plans, campaigns, promotion and educational materials, and events. You will liaise with Communications & Creative Multimedia staff to support marketing and communications initiatives.
You will co-create and maintains comprehensive project documentation, plans, and reports, create detailed work plans, timelines, and community contracts, and ensure stakeholders are consulted, represented, and involved.
