**Established in 1970, Aventa Centre of Excellence for Women with Addictions** is a leader in trauma-informed, gender specific, addictions treatment for women. Through a multi-disciplinary team approach, Aventa delivers a trauma-informed curriculum researched and written by Dr. Stephanie Covington. Aventa’s operating funding is provided through provincial and federal Governments; Aventa has been partnered with the Alberta government since 1971. Aventa is accredited with Exemplary Standing through Accreditation Canada.
**We Need**:
**As a Recovery Support Counsellor with Aventa, a typical day may include**:
- Providing recovery support services to the Clients of Aventa on a 24 hour, 7 day a week basis.
- Being open and available to deliver clinical/therapeutic guidance, psycho-educational support, information, and referral services to active and previous Clients of Aventa, at an individual and group level.
- Monitoring and supervising the activities and behaviours of Clients and respond in supportive, meaningful ways.
- Maintaining a safe, welcoming and trauma-informed environment through:
- participation in the admission or discharge process for Clients
- searching Clients’ belongings as they arrive/leave the program
- conducting room searches
- observing chores
- supporting Client schedule/routines and accounting for all Clients at strategic times such as curfew, bed check hours, during or after fire drills, and meal hours
- conducting drug and alcohol screens and collaborating documentation
- observing Clients self-administer their own medications
- supporting meal service
- ensuring Client bedrooms are clean and welcoming for new admissions including making beds, doing laundry and light housework.
- Facilitating or supporting evening and weekend programming including groups, recreation activities, walks, and meetings.
- Supporting Clients with crisis intervention, smoking cessation, referrals, collaboration agreements and other clinical support.
- Ensuring proper documentation and management of Client files. This includes observing, recording and reporting on Client progress and challenges, documenting and distributing critical incidents according to policy, completing various forms and documents required for accountability and accreditation purposes, writing case notes, ensuring proper release of information records are in place, and protecting the confidentiality of Client records.
- Attending supervision, team meetings and training.
- Contributing actively to a positive and supportive team environment.
- Participating in ongoing learning and supervision.
- Have a diploma or degree in a related human services field. Current Registration with Professional College as applicable.
- Be able to commit to a minimum of 4 shifts per month.
- Be able to work as a member of a team as well as independently.
- Be familiar working in the areas of trauma, addictions and mental health.
- Have a positive attitude and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Be able to take initiative and demonstrate reliability and flexibility.
- Have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Have proficient computer knowledge.
- Have a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Welfare Intervention Check (dated within 6 months).
- Have up to date Suicide Intervention training and First Aid/CPR.
