Recovery Support Worker

**Full Time**
- 3 nights on, 3 nights off 7pm-7am
- All hours worked between 11pm and 7am is entitled to a $2 per hour shift premium
- Must have a Class 5 Drivers License (non-GDL)
**About Alpha House**:
Alpha House Society is a non-profit, charitable agency that provides safe and caring environments for individuals whose lives are affected by alcohol and other drug dependencies. Alpha House first opened in Calgary in 1981 as a place of safety for men and women who are struggling with addictions and mental health issues. Services at Alpha House are delivered from a social model that respects the clients’ right to self-determination as they address the impact of alcoholism and addiction in their lives. We strive to develop relationships of trust with our clients, working on client-identified issues from withdrawal management to mental health concerns, and from treatment to housing needs. We seek to provide hope through direct service and the promotion of well-being.
**Position Summary**:
The Detox Recovery Support Worker is responsible for the development and
implementation of a case plan that assists the client in increasing their overall stability
and resiliency, as well as supporting clients in meeting their short
- or long-term recovery
goals.
**Responsibilities**:
- Completing daily admissions including monitoring and responding to client needs
Demonstrate ethically responsible practice with staff and clients alike
- Daily case notes and record keeping, related to the client’s psycho-social state
and treatment plan, including assessing their current place in the stages of
change model
- Case Manager and support clients in reaching achievable and realistic goals,
making refers to community resources, assisting in the completion of treatment
- Works in partnership with the nursing team to ensure safe withdrawal
management
- Role model Alpha House’s value’s and be a positive ambassador when
interacting with the public, partners and businesses
- Providing educational presentations to clients on topics related to health,
addictions and homelessness
- Ensures clients residing in the program are following program requirements
- Completing daily chores, including cleaning (including bodily fluids) and laundry
- Participation and attendance at regular team meetings and in program evaluation as needed
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and ability to reference them from appropriate sources
- Transporting of clients, in an Agency vehicle, as needed
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards CMSDS, OH&S, WHMIS etc.
- Assist in the Shelter and other programs as needed
**Qualifications**:
- A minimum of a two-year program in Addictions, Social Work or related, from a
- Public Post Secondary Educational Institution, or in progress towards one
- Front line experience working with indigenous and or vulnerable populations and
a desire to work with people who may be socially disadvantaged or have mental
health challenges
- An understanding of addictions including: withdrawal management, harm
reduction, stages of change, trauma informed-care, crisis management, crisis
counseling, recovery orientated systems of care and impact of mental health
issues.
- Must be tolerant, non-judgmental with a high degree of compassion and
empathy towards the homeless and those struggling with addictions and or
mental health
- Proven crisis management, problem solving skills, rapport-building and advocacy
skills
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills and the ability to prepare
and facilitate presentations
- Team Player, strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to
communicate showing respect and dignity as well as with discretion and maintain
confidentiality of clients
- High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability, including time
management and the ability to prioritize tasks with mínimal supervision.
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and
Outlook
- An understanding and appreciation for the Protection of Persons In Care Act.
**Position Requirements**:
Proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID
- Class 5 (Non GDL) driver license and a willingness to obtain a Class 4
- Comfortable driving a large passenger Van
- Be able to physically assist clients from prone to sitting or standing, and vice
versa
- Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Search, valid within the last six months, that
does not contain any results material to the position
- FOIP Certification
- “It’s your Move” training, or equivalent Patient Lift training
