Facilities Technician

Upper Canada Child Care is looking to fill the position of a Facilities Technician to join our team located at our Head Office (Markham).
This position is 40 hours/week.
**Starting Pay**: $46,000-$56,000, plus benefits, paid personal time, vacation.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs repairs and maintenance work on equipment, buildings and grounds for all child care and head office facilities. Delivery of product to centres as required. Supports the organization’s vision, mission, and guiding values.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE**:
- Performs ongoing preventative maintenance tasks and repair work on machines and equipment at child care centres and corporate facilities as required; replaces broken and defective parts.
- Performs all necessary set-up and installation tasks required on equipment.
- Provides 24-hour on-call service in case of emergencies.
- Installs signs and banners.
- Co-ordinates playground repairs and maintenance in conjunction with Facilities Coordinator
- Orders, delivers and ensures proper set-up of major appliances.
- Monitors maintenance parts and inventory, and replenishes as required.
- Adheres to health and safety guidelines and uses protective/safety equipment, as required by any government and company regulations.
- Conducts vehicle inspections on a weekly basis.
- Assists with tracking and charting of equipment and supplies to centres to ensure efficiencies are gained.
- Delivers program supplies and other products to child care centres.
- Performs janitorial and plumbing tasks.
- Participates in project planning in conjunction with Facilities Coordinator.
- Acts as back up to Facilities Coordinator ensuring urgent maintenance is taken care of in a timely manner.
- Operates forklift when required.
- Any other reasonable duties as assigned from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalency; related courses an asset.
- Minimum of one year related experience
- Valid driver’s license.
- Forklift Training Certification (training provided upon selection if required).
- A recent Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and take initiative while working both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service mindset.
- Basic computer literacy; including Microsoft 365.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT
- Working conditions include climate-controlled environments with some exposure to disagreeable elements, including heat and cold, and occasional adverse weather conditions for driving.
- Moderate physical effort regularly required including extended periods of standing and sitting. Bending, kneeling, twisting, pushing, and pulling, along with lifting and carrying of light to heavy objects regularly required
