Do you have an interest in the criminal justice system in Canada and working with victims and witnesses affected by crime?

Do you have a desire to assist those navigating this complex system by providing information and ongoing court support with an empathic and compassionate approach? Is developing strong rapport and a safer space in your everyday interactions important to you?

As a Crown Witness Coordinator (CWC) at the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) you will have an opportunity to use these skills and tools to aid in the creation of a more accessible route for those navigating an intricate system. Often working with people at the most difficult points of their lives, CWC’s strive to ensure victims of crime are aware of their rights and have access to accurate and reliable information.

Within PPSC we acknowledge the historical and on-going failure to protect the lives, values, and cultures of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. CWC’s are confronted with these historical and on-going realities regularly, with the continued over-representation of Indigenous Peoples within the criminal justice system and high rates of violence against Indigenous Peoples, particularly Indigenous women and girls. CWC’s work with all victims of crime with a victim centered approach with an aim of mitigating unnecessary harm from an already significant and sensitive time.

**Duties**:
Crown Witness Coordinators work closely with Crown prosecutors, victims, witnesses, and the community to provide a critical link between the criminal justice system and victims of crime. This small but essential support team for witnesses and victims of crime provide services throughout the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon.

**Work environment**:
The Department:
The Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) is a national organization that prosecutes federal offences. We offer career opportunities for prosecutors, paralegals, legal assistants, and a wide range of business professionals. Our organization consists of approximately 1000 employees in regional offices across the country.

Every PPSC employee has a role to play in creating a work environment where every person can bring their whole self to work and feel valued and empowered to contribute. Being informed and influenced by our diverse employees helps change the heart and conscience of the PPSC. As part of the larger PPSC Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA) governance structure, you can join one of five National Councils for Employees: Persons living with Disabilities, Racialized Persons, Black Persons, Indigenous Peoples, and 2SLGBTQIA+.

The PPSC also updated the Decision to Prosecute test, which provides clear guidance to prosecutors on how to be more proactive and conscious about recognizing bias, discrimination, and other factors contributing to over-representation. Prosecutors now have a framework to consider background and systemic factors. These factors are considered not only as they relate to the accused, but also to the victim and affected communities, particularly Indigenous women and girls. It also seeks to clarify situations where the public interest may not require a prosecution.

Love to travel? There are 20 communities in the Northwest Territories that are served by the PPSC. Employees will have the opportunity to explore the greatness and natural beauty of the North during their travels for circuit court.

Additional benefits to working in the Northwest Territories:
1) Northern Allowance - in addition to your base salary to offset the costs of living in the Northwest Territories.
2) Relocation assistance.
3) Vacation Travel Assistance - paid travel outside the territory once a year. The amount allocated varies.
4) Training opportunities.

**Intent of the process**:
