The Public Safety and Emergency Services, under the authority of the Emergency Management Act, leads the coordination and co-operation of all organizations involved in emergencies and disasters. This includes emergency and disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) is accountable and responsible to the Alberta government, to Albertans, and to their communities, for the protection of people, their property, the environment and the economy from the effects of disasters and emergency events. Alberta relies on a decentralized public safety system for managing the various emergency events that occur every year. The System is made up of many stakeholders and partners including government ministries, municipal agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), industry, First Nation communities and Métis Settlements. AEMA accomplishes its mandate by effectively and successfully leading the coordination, collaboration and cooperation between all entities involved in the prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery activities within this diverse partnership.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Advisor develops and delivers provincial programs and policies to actively reduce the negative impact of criminal activities which cause AFRRCS sites to be turned off.

Some of the role’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Take a lead role in the strategic development of programs and policies related to AFRRCS’ operations. Provide advice, research, and analysis to support decision-making processes.
- Take a lead role in the design, consultation and/or commissioning of building security systems in a public sector environment
- Ensures AFRRCS' interests and priorities are effectively represented in Government of Alberta cross ministry priorities initiatives through Stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop plans and exercises.
- Conduct inspections of contracts and business records to ensure compliance under legislative authority.
- Ensure there is a process in place to investigate complaints and offences in a timely manner, in accordance with legislation, policy and procedures and able to lead and direct those investigations.
- Working with the Rules of Court and Laws of Evidence

**Qualifications**:
**Required**: University graduation in Criminal Justice, Law or equivalent supplemented by 4 years of progressively responsible experience in physical security or design, consultation or commissioning of building security systems in a public sector or equivalent knowledge/experience such as: Physical security systems (access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection), procedures, and protocols.

**Equivalency**: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year education.
