Indigenous Support Foster Care Worker, Full-time

**The Program**
WJS Canada provides social services to children, youth, adults and families facing difficulties. We take a personalized, trauma-informed approach to care in an environment of cultural respect and support. We provide foster and kinship parents the tools and resources to help them meet the needs of the youth in their care.
**In Your Role You Will**
- Provide flexible and responsive support to develop and implement competency-based training and coordinate professional supports to address ongoing needs of foster care providers.
- Provide regular scheduled and unscheduled monitoring visits to homes.
- Complete SAFE home studies as required.
- Work with caregivers to develop relevant service plans to ensure youth in homes are successful.
- Assist foster care providers in developing emergency response, safety, and contingency planning.
- Ensure foster care homes are operating in accordance to licensing, CARF standards, and legislated requirements.
- Maintain current contact notes and program reports. Prepare and submit reports as per specifications and deadlines.
- Establish trusting relationships with care providers in order to assist in development of all required skills and competencies.
- Attend and provide information at multidisciplinary case management meetings.
- Participate in quality improvement and risk management planning. Provide crisis intervention as necessary.
- Represent WJS with professionalism and respect within our communities.
- Adhere to ethical/professional standards, performing all program activities in accordance with WJS policies and procedures as well as program specific policies, Children and Family policies, accreditation and core standards.
- Accommodate and respect cultural, social and religious heritage.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required.
**The Position**
The Indigenous Support Foster Care Worker (ISFCW) works directly with the foster care providers, offering ongoing support and training to encourage positive relationships and achieve the best outcomes for both youth and caregivers. The ISFCW conducts needs assessments and develops recommendations to enhance service quality for those served. The ISFCW performs home visits to ensure that care providers are effectively trained and culturally aware.
The Indigenous Support Foster Care Worker will be supporting Indigenous children in care, providing their foster families learning opportunities about culture, language, and teachings that can be incorporated in the home. They will be supporting the foster family to engage in Indigenous experiences, activities, and ceremonies as they are available.
This position reports the Foster Care Program Manager.
Scheduling
One (1) permanent full-time position, with scheduled shifts of 40hrs per week:
- Primary weekly schedule of Monday through Friday, 0830-1630
- Requires flexibility with evening and weekend scheduling, to accommodate the needs of the children and families within the program.
**Mandatory Pre-Employment Screenings and Checks**
**Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.**
- MINIMUM two (2) years related experience in case management, working with foster families
- College Diploma in Social work or Human Services field
- Experience, training and background in Indigenous culture, or willingness to be trained, is an asset.
- Familiarity/experience with accreditation standards for monitoring Foster Homes and Child in Care programs
- Must have the ability to work collaboratively in conflict situations
- Class 5 driver’s license with a clear driving abstract, reliable vehicle and proof of insurability
- Clear Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector Check
- Clear Child Intervention Record check
Additional Requirements:
- Valid CPR / First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain during probation)
- Valid Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate and Conflict Resolution Certificate
