**This is a full-time two-year contract excluded Management and Professional Staff position. Secondments will also be considered for this position.**

The University of Alberta is searching for an outstanding leader and innovator to assume the position of Portfolio Initiatives Manager - Programs in the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic). The Portfolio Initiatives Manager - Programs plays a key role in advancing the strategic goals and initiatives of the Office of the Provost, including those identified in _SHAPE,_ the University’s Strategic Plan.

Reporting to the Vice-Provost (Programs), this position works to ensure the progression of academic programming priorities and initiatives. The incumbent will work in a collegial, cooperative and transparent manner, in managing processes with a University-wide impact for the Portfolio.

As such, the Portfolio Initiatives Manager - Programs must possess a demonstrated track record of work that reflects Indigenous as well as equity, diversity, and inclusivity (EDI) initiatives.

Specific responsibilities include:

- Ensuring strategic and efficient tracking and management of program proposals, and issues affecting academic programming.
- Supervising staff in the programs portfolio team of staff.
- Managing specific portfolio initiatives in support of the Vice-Provost team, including developing terms of reference, conducting research, developing timelines, tracking and communications.
- Providing leadership, expertise, and advice on issues and initiatives of key strategic importance to the Office of the Provost.

The Portfolio Initiatives Manager - Programs realizes the position’s purpose by:

- Working collaboratively with contacts within the Office of the Provost, across the institution and with the government to advance strategic initiatives from the Office of the Provost.
- Communicating effectively and earning the trust, confidence and respect of others.
- Working independently and proactively to deadlines while managing multiple initiatives concurrently.
- Contributing to a respectful, collaborative and innovative team in the Office of the Provost.
- Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree is an asset.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of University policies, administrative and governance processes and academic programs.
- Superior analytical reasoning and organizational skills.
- Ability to demonstrate understanding of, and to apply, principles of Indigenous initiatives, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity.
- Skill in problem solving and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Highest ethical standards.
- Demonstrated team leadership skills in a unionized setting.
- Ability to work independently and to take initiative.
- Strong computer knowledge and skills, including with the use of interactive forms and project tracking software.

These skills are generally attained through:

- Completion of University degree.
- Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible project management experience, with the ability to work independently within a large institutional environment with a variety of groups.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with senior administration and with team members from a variety of disciplines.
