**Position Summary**
- The Manager, Simulation and Experiential Learning is responsible for the overall direction and leadership of operational, financial, and staff activities to support excellence in simulation-based learning in the School of Health Sciences. This position reports to the Dean, School of Health Sciences and in collaboration with the simulation center staff and faculty is responsible for supporting ongoing use of simulation-based learning pedagogies to enhance student learning experiences. The Manager will be responsible for coordinating the Centre’s operations in order to maximize efficiencies in the utilization of space, staff and supplies.**Duties & Responsibilities**

**Strategic and Operational Planning and Management**
1. Provides strategic direction and oversight for the design, implementation and assessment of operational needs simulation activities including lab space, inventory management, and equipment status (warranty, end of life cycle).
- 2. Actively participates in planning and communications between health science programs to coordinate simulation and experiential learning across programs.
- 3. Participates in the development of capital equipment purchases, vendor meetings and selection.
- 4. Collaborates with faculty on reviewing existing and recommending new policies and procedures for effective simulation activity operation and usage.
- 5. Researches, reports on, develops and implements new business opportunities for optimizing simulated learning space utilization.
- 6. Assesses quality, safety, and staffing concerns and addresses and rectifies issues on a timely basis.
- 7. Represents VCC and participates in province-wide simulation collaboration efforts and represents VCC in national professional organizations.
- 8. Provides recommendation to the Dean and Associate Director on developing and sustaining leading edge simulated learning experiences and spaces.
- 9. Manages the scheduling and delivery for laboratory practice, low and high-fidelity simulation for all health science programs.
- 10. Develops and implements strategies to increase efficient usage of the simulation space.
- 11. Develops, implements and monitors quality control practices pertaining to infection control to ensure faculty and student safety.
- 12. Maintains and promotes adherence to policies and procedures related to the safe operations of the equipment and facilities.
- 13. Collaborates with the Practice Education Coordinator, faculty and staff to deliver simulation education programming relevant to the practice setting.

14. Provides Simulation Centre staff and faculty members with appropriate technical training and support to use resources of the Simulation Centre effectively.
- 15. Promotes, monitors and addresses concerns related to experiential learning as aligned with current quality and safety standards including the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Standards of Best Practice in Simulation and the Society for Simulation in Health Care (SSH) accreditation standards.
- 16. Manages planned simulation and experiential learning experiences in collaboration with faculty members.
- 17. Works closely with faculty members in health science programs to plan and schedule simulation and experiential learning experiences.
- 18. Assists in the collection of data to evaluate simulation programming.
- 19. Troubleshoots organizational and technical issues related to simulation set-up, cleanliness and equipment operation through visual inspection, communication with faculty and staff, and redeploying equipment and/or supplies to meet unexpected needs.
- 20. Works with faculty and support staff to manage inventory for supplies, equipment, student capacity and lab utilization.
- 21. Works closely with VCC’s Information Technology department, external technical experts and maintenance technicians to ensure optimum operating environments for faculty and students.
