**Position Summary**
- This position is responsible for assisting classroom instructors in the performance of their duties by performing a wide variety of duties including supervising students in the operation of equipment and supplies, preparing and setting up instructional materials, conducting classroom demonstrations and leading tutorials.**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Assists instructors in the operation of courses; supervises students in the use of equipment and supplies; prepares, sets up and assists with scheduled laboratory, tutorials and other instructional sessions; conducts demonstrations; marks student assignments/examinations and assists students as required.
- Receives and responds to a large number of student enquiries related to procedures, techniques, methodologies, grading, and course content matters. Refers more complex queries to the instructor.
- Leads tutorials and labs of instructional sub-group to augment the instructional process.
- Performs routine maintenance of apparatus and equipment used in the instructional process.
- Monitors, maintains and orders inventory of program materials and supplies. Conducts periodic inventory counts.
- Advises and directs student aides as required.
- Performs general administrative duties, maintains records, produces photocopies, enlarges materials and maintains database of instructional resources.
- Performs other related duties as required.

**Qualifications**

**Education and Experience**
- Grade 12 plus additional specialized training of over 2 years and over 1 year related experience in community programs offering Sign Language instruction to the hearing public or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.

**Skills and Abilities**
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and faculty.
- Native Signer of ASL with English as a Second Language.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and the ability to understand and use other sign or oral communication methods.
- Considerable knowledge of program course content, instructional equipment (especially VCR lab) and materials and the various procedures, techniques and methodologies of classroom management.
- Sound knowledge of the standard uses of an audio-visual Sign Language lab and the operation and routine maintenance of its apparatus, equipment and aids employed.
- Ability to effectively assist instructors through preparing, making available and setting up instructional equipment, apparatus and materials; modeling of ASL and Deaf Culture; and acting as a resource person within the instructional environment.
- Knowledge of routine record keeping of department resources used/loaned by students.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Good model of American Sign Language of the Deaf. Strong identity with Deaf Culture.
- Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to relay information/instruction clearly and concisely.
- Ability to operate and perform routine standard maintenance with respect to equipment utilized in the instruction program.
- Ability to advise and direct student aides as required.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations within a specialized educational team.
- Proficiency with computers.
