**Position Summary**:
The primary responsibility of the Kitchen Assistant/Prep person is to assist in the day-to-day preparation of meals and maintenance of safety, order, and cleanliness in the kitchen, supply, and service areas as well as supervision of patient’s duties.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Assists or prepares food as required (i.e. salads, condiments, vegetables, and fruit).
- Utilizes recipes for all food production.
- Adheres to menu quantity and quality practices to meet standards for Bridges.
- Assists with meal service as directed by cook.
- Assist cooks in safely securing all food when not in use or after use.
- Assists or stores deliveries in an organized manner.
- Follows kitchen procedures and communication guidelines.
- Maintenance of clean and sanitary food service areas, including dining room.
- Applies Foodsafe practices to food prep, service, and storage areas.
- Able to use kitchen equipment in a safe and proper manner.
- Reports equipment failures to appropriate personnel.
- Maintains safety and cleaning checklists as required (i.e. sanitizer strength testing, weekly cleaning).
- Safe control over all sharps (knife checks), reporting discrepancies immediately.
- Be conversant with cleaning standards, routines, and expectations.
- Assist in the instruction and supervision of patients in their duties.
- Performance of all related duties as assigned. (i.e. Rascal’s salad prep, functions, etc.)
**Experience and Qualifications**:
- Criminal record check clearance through the Ministry of Justice.
- T.B. test
- Experience working in food service preferred
- Valid Food Safe certification
- Valid First Aid/CPR C certification
- Willingness to work irregular hours as required
- Must be able to understand and follow directions
- Must be of a good reputation, ethical, and have a strong sense of responsibility
- Enjoy working with people and compatible with clients in order to understand specific treatment needs
- Able to receive and give feedback in a proper fashion as required
- Must have good hearing and eyesight. Observant, alert, able to anticipate potential problems
- Neat, well groomed, with emphasis on personal hygiene and cleanliness
- Endurance must be sufficient to meet the physical and mental demands of the position. Able to lift up to 50lbs. Able to stand for up to 4 hours at a time. Able to work from ladder, or at floor level
**Conditions of Employment**:
- Reports directly to the Cooks.
- Six month probation period.
- General conduct, ethics, and confidentiality as per Edgewood policy.
- Dress code as per policy and kitchen standards.
- Able to work regular hours or on-call depending on schedule.
- Annual performance review.
