Giant Tiger is hiring a Head of Merchandise Financial Planning Reporting to the CFO, the Head of Merchandise Financial Planning will be responsible to oversee the development of strategic merchandise financial plans that support Giant Tiger’s long-term strategy. The incumbent will lead a team of Merchandise Financial Planning Managers and Merchandise Financial Planners.

This role is hybrid out of our Ottawa Home Office. It is preferred that the incumbent is located in the Ottawa area or willing to commute or relocate.

Head of Merchandise Financial Planning, Role Accountabilities:

- Leads the Merchandise Financial Planning team in the execution of financial strategies, with the collaboration of the merchant team, to optimize in-year sales, gross margin ($ and %) and inventory levels by reviewing actual results to plan and last year while considering macro-economic trends. Reviews and updates planning KPIs yearly to increase profitability.
- Partners with Finance, GMMs and Executives on the development of long term merchandise financial plans and KPIs that support Giant Tiger's strategy.
- Leads and facilitates the Weekly Action Review meetings to highlight risks and opportunities in our financial merchandising plans and ensures actions are taken to mitigate risks or drive incremental profits.
- Improves Giant Tiger's sales and margin forecasting accuracy to 95% by developing a bottom up and thorough cross functional forecasting process between Merchants, Planners, Replenishment, Store Operations and Finance.
- Oversees the continuous improvement of Giant Tiger's markdown strategy, including the e-markdown tool, planner and store added markdowns, to optimize sales and margin.
- Store planning alignment
- Inventory Planning, seasonal inventory exit strategies
- Recommend and execute the optimal organizational structure for the Merchandise Financial Planning team.
- Occasional travel is required.
- MBA degree or equivalent advanced degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- 8-10 years related experience in the retail industry, preferably with a national retailer
- 5-7 years of people management experience
- Extensive knowledge of retail Merchandise Financial Planning process and metrics
- Ability to develop and execute 2-5 year strategic plan
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to see future opportunities, challenge the status quo, make recommendations and problem solve
- Strong ability to communicate effectively, interact and build relationships across all levels of the organization and with key partners
- Strong ability to present information in an effective and concise manner to diverse audience and forums
- Strong management skills (coaching, development and training skills) that build effective teams through the organization for succession
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products

- Bilingual (English/French)
