The McGill Office of Religious and Spiritual Life (MORSL) provides multi‐faith resources and programming for the religious and spiritual well‐being of all McGill students. They offer support to students across the religious, spiritual, and secular spectrum and encourage students’ spiritual exploration through workshops, events, publications, and a lounge and meditation space.

Position Summary:
The MORSL PFV student coordinator plays a key role in communicating with student volunteers in the program to coordinate engagement activities and relevant training and onboarding. The student coordinator is directly involved in recruiting volunteers and acts as the main student point of contact with volunteers throughout the year, and helps maintain records and reports on the program metrics. In addition to collaborating on the peer training program, this role aids the Director in expanding and diversifying the student partnerships with the Office. The actual number of hours per week can vary depending on peak periods of activity and slow periods or closures.

Volunteer recruitment:

- Brainstorm, plan, and execute the volunteer recruitment campaign. Including working on promotional materials in accordance with MORSL’s standards and participating in both local and campus-wide events aimed at generating awareness of the program. Help interview and select volunteers.

Volunteer Engagement and Retention:

- Help plan and facilitate opportunities for volunteers to hone skills throughout the year; work with leads of other MORSL programs to build synergies and enhance participation of volunteers across MORSL activities; develop and facilitate capstone projects for the group; match each volunteer to a mentor based on their goals and objectives.

Program Coordination:

- Keep records according to unit processes; maintain logs, resource lists, contact information, and program statistics; write annual program report

Training program:

- As time allows, review current program and identify opportunities and gaps in training; refine existing materials and, in consultation with the Director, generate new training materials according to needs and aligned with design principles; aim at offering pathways for growth in the program

General:

- Perform other duties as required. Provide occasional frontline reception duties during the lunch period

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Excellent communication skills (listening, speaking and writing)
- Has a friendly, open, approachable personality and is comfortable initiating conversations with people they have not met before. Enthusiastic about connecting with people and learning about them
- Experience with event planning and organizing volunteers
- Experience with workshop facilitation techniques or group animation
- Strong organizational skills. Good at record keeping, keeping track of events, staying in regular contact with volunteers
- Respectful, pluralistic, open-minded and curious approach towards various religious identities, traditions, and worldviews.
- Demonstrated interfaith/intercultural competency
- Strong competencies in Microsoft Office tools in a Windows environment
- Able to organize tasks and manage time to successfully meet deadlines and objectives
- Has an understanding of different faith identities/groups, and their specific needs, practices, etc. Someone capable of serving as a resource to students
- Strengths in graphic design for preparing promotional materials, an asset.
- Discreet, tactful with the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 on a scale of 0-4
