Health and Safety Coordinator

The Health & Safety Coordinator plays an essential role supporting the management team in the administration of the Occupational Health and Safety Program. This involves coordinating site compliance and ensuring adherence to the Certificate of Recognition (COR). This position plays a leadership role with the health and safety committee as well as in creating a safe work environment and ensuring compliance with corporate, industry, and regulatory safety standards.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS**
- Supports managers, supervisors in the effective implementation of COR safety strategies, policies, and processes.
- Maintain and develop a safety system that meets COR requirements.
- Develops policies, procedures and practices regarding health and safety for the companies.
- Maintain documentation and records.
- Compiles data and reports for management; provides monthly statistics to HR for weekly dashboard meetings.
- Works with management and JHSC members to ensure that procedures meet guidelines
- Provide support and input for special projects or corporate initiatives related to the health and safety of employees.
- Communicates policies and other relevant information to keep managers and staff up to date and well-informed regarding health and safety issues at any given time
- Ensure the timely completion of accident/injury investigations; direct and renew the analysis of accident and injury data, identifying the need for new or modified occupational safety programs. Ensure actions identified are followed through on.
- Work with Team Leads, Supervisors, and Managers in accomplishing job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
- Coordinates monthly and spot inspections, investigations, and occupational safety activities with departments. Ensure safety requirements, identified in inspections, are completed.
- Prepare agenda and lead regular Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings, take and distribute meeting minutes.
- Monitors adherence to the company safety program by all employees and subcontractors.
- Responsible for SDS documentation management in conjunction with the Plant Supervisor.
- Spends time on the plant floor observing operational processes, procedures in all departments. (approximate time on the floor will vary, estimated at 30%)
- Analyze work environment for unsafe work procedures and hazards.
- Develops a clear understanding of all jobs within the company.
- Observes and audits procedures and activities within the company to ensure that they meet company guidelines and relevant legislation.
- Makes recommendations to management to improve health and safety program.
- Recommends changes to work conditions and procedures to improve the work environment and comply with all health and safety regulations.
- Work with HR team and managers on forming RTW/SAW plans
- Consult with management on disability management
- Assist in the development of early intervention strategies
- Reports safety violations and injuries to the appropriate authorities as required.
- Assist with coordinating Worksafe BC site visits and other third-party audits
- Conducts in-service training to educate employees
- Provides advice, guidance and coaching to health and safety committee, managers, supervisors, team leads and staff on a variety of safety issues especially those related to occupational safety policy and practices, issues, and decisions related to COR and other regulatory requirements.
- Provide monthly training and lead First Aid Attendants towards increasing the level of safety within the work environment.
- Support the development and implementation of Safety Toolbox meetings.
- Coordinate education and program maintenance requirements for WHMIS, Fall Protection, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, industry specific related issues.
- Recommend training options for completion of mandatory training requirements.
- Maintain employee training records as per COR and regulatory requirements.
- Ensuring documentation is completed by those responsible and filed appropriately.
- Highlight and communicate non-compliance concerns to management
- Conduct inspections, hazards assessments, and investigations as required.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
- Minimum OFA level 2 required
- Completed or in the process of completing OHS certificate, diploma or degree with at least 2 years of experience in a related field. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Part-time hours: 25 per week
**Salary**: $28.00-$32.00 per hour
