**Locations**: Fort Erie/Rural

**Terms**: 10 weeks; June 3, 2024 to August 10, 2024 (est. end date)

**Hours of Work**: up to 35 hours per week; various shifts available

**About Us**:BICRis a non-profit organization that provides rehabilitative and support services in Niagara to individuals living with the effects of an acquired brain injury. We promote self-direction, facilitate opportunities for meaningful adaptation, and contribute to the development of the agency and its people.

**Job Summary**:
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Assistant Rehabilitation Counsellor is accountable for assisting with ongoing assessment, implementation, and review of individuals within the agency programs.

**Specific Accountabilities Include but are not Limited to**:

- Promote the rights of persons with an acquired brain injury by facilitating independence and empowerment, enhancing quality of life, and educating the community as required.
- Support participants in achieving their identified goals by assisting them with activities of daily living.
- Promote individual support plan (ISP) success by engaging in recreation activities that maximize program potential, ensuring individualized program integrity and safety, intervening in crisis situations, promoting participant involvement, identifying inappropriate behaviour and redirecting participants to alternate actions, and providing counselling to participants
- Coordinate necessary resources for group activities including, but not limited to, transportation
- Provide ongoing feedback, support, and direction to participants
- Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor

**Key Qualifications**:

- Between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
- Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred (International Students are not eligible)
- Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/ territorial legislation and regulations
- Preference given to applicants pursuing a degree or diploma in Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Services, Health Sciences, Educational Assistance, or a related field
- Preference given to applicants with work related experience providing rehabilitation and support to adults with an acquired brain injury
- Preference given to applicants with a demonstrated knowledge of community based resources in the Niagara Region
- Self-directed and able to take initiative
- Exceptional social, communication, and listening skills
- Current certification in Standard First Aid/CPR is a requirement
- Current valid driver’s license
- Bilingual ability in French is an asset
- Must be physically and mentally capable of performing the duties of the position and be able to build excellent rapport with participants, co-workers, and community partners
- Current Vulnerable Sector Police Check

**Working Conditions**: Working as a team and independently within residential setting; may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions etc ; exposure to the threat of physical or verbal abuse; direct and personal responsibility for the care, welfare and safety of the individuals we support; direct intervention in crisis and emergency situations.
