Nisku, Canada Sperry Rail Service Full time

This position supports the Canadian Sperry Rail Leadership Team, Operations, and all personnel in Canada. Employee recruitment, selection, and onboarding is managed by HR personnel at Sperry Rail headquarters in the US. Some travel within Canada and the US is required.

**Responsibilities and Role Accountabilities**

**Leadership Advisory**
- Provides informed, strategic, and timely advice to the Sperry Rail leadership group on employee and labour relations matters
- Proactively develops recommendations to address issues and concerns
- Manages special projects spanning employee and labour relations, training & development, workforce planning, and other HR functions
- Contributes to Sperry Rail’s strategic goal of prioritizing quality and safety for continuous improvement

**Leads the Implementation of Sperry Rail Human Resources Processes**
- Ensures consistent and integrated employee and labour relations practices across the organization
- Provides leadership and expertise in workplace conflict, performance management, discipline, termination, attendance support, and contingency planning
- Advises on collective agreements, Employment Equity Act, Canada Labour Code, and HR best practices as well as other relevant legislations and regulatory compliance requirements related to people.
- Investigates workplace incidents, conducts fact-finding, and prepares positions
- Supports managers in addressing complex employee and labour relations issues, fostering positive relationships
- Negotiates resolutions/settlements and partners with legal counsel as needed
- Research trends/data, recommends strategies, and builds external relationships
- Ensures a healthy and safe work environment and identifies accommodation solutions
- Works with the Occupational Health, Safety, Human Resources, and Operations departments and Sperry Rail leadership to ensure a healthy and safe work environment for all staff and identifies appropriate temporary modified work and/or permanent accommodation solutions

**HR Policy Development & Implementation**
- Interprets and applies relevant legislation, collective agreements, and Sperry Rail policies
- Liaises with external organizations and legal counsel
- Ensures policies are current and relevant
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on information exchange and adaptation
- Performs cross-functional duties as assigned

**Job Requirements**
- University degree in a related field; CHRP/CHRL preferred
- Minimum seven (7) years of recent HR experience dealing with complex employee relations, employment legislation, agreement interpretation, dispute resolution, grievance management, and agreement negotiation
- Significant experience in employee and labour relations
- Knowledge of federally regulated employment legislation including the Canada Labour Code and Employment Equity Act
- Experience in a complex institution, preferably in federally regulated industries
- Proficiency in MS Office and HRIS
- Demonstrated ability in developing and implementing HR policies
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
- Flexible, self-directed, and able to manage competing priorities
- Strong problem-solving and project management abilities
- Satisfactory work performance history

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $95,000.00 per year

- Human resources: 7 years (required)
- labour relations: 5 years (preferred)
- federally regulated employer: 3 years (preferred)
