The City of Surrey is one of 21 municipalities in Metro Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. We are located on the Lower Mainland on the south side of the Fraser River and share a border with the United States of America. **Position Summary**:
Working collaboratively with and under the supervision of the Aboriginal Early Childhood Development (ECD) Program Manager, the ECD Program plans, develops and implements, and oversees the day-to-day operations of the ECD program. ECD programs and services are designed to ensure children get the best possible start in life.

The work of ECD Program Coordinator will contribute towards the following long-term outcomes:
1. Mothers are healthy and give birth to healthy infants who remain healthy.

2. Children experience healthy early childhood development, including optimal early learning and care.

3. Parents are empowered and supported to nurture and care for their children.

4. Communities support the development of all children and families.

This dynamic individual will be highly engaged, and self-directed with a passion for Aboriginal early learning and development; will have a strengths-based focus which is evidenced in philosophy and approach; and will have a demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal history (including approaches that are congruent with decolonizing methodologies). Teamwork/supervision, organization, planning and development, detail orientation and client development are key competencies of this position.

**Job Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Supervises the day-to-day activities of the AECD team including the Early Childhood Educators, the Bus Driver, and the Nutritional Advisor/Cook.
- Participates in the recruitment and selection of program staff by performing duties such as screening applicants, participation on interview panels, and making hiring recommendations.
- Schedules program staff in accordance with program staffing requirements.
- Provides feedback to the Program Manager regarding staff performance.
- Ensures participant intake and reporting forms are completed and up to date for all groups, including Family Culture Nights.
- Supports the ECD Program Manager in data collection for reporting and other related duties as required.
- Develops curriculum and ensures continuous quality improvements for the 0-6 ECD Drop-In program.
- Plans the ECD calendar and coordinates the activities of the staff, acting as the lead staff person in the ECD Drop-In program.
- Collaborate with Program Coordinators within the ECD programs within the agencyt (AHS) for planning events and program collaborations.
- Maintains responsibility for purchasing all items related to the program and is responsible for the maintenance of all supporting documentation in accordance with standard accounting practices.
- Promotes public awareness of and support for the ECD program by developing and revising the promotional materials and handouts.
- Coordinates safety and sanitation procedures, first aid and emergency medical procedures in the ECD Drop-In program and promotes healthy and hygienic practices.
- Assists in the overall are and maintenance of the ECD area and equipment.
- Ensures Elders participation in the ECD Drop-In program and coordinates child drop-in for other ECD programs as required.
- Models positive parent child interactions
