Key Accountabilities

Payroll Management- Manages full time and part time payrolls and payments to the SGI Board of Directors, ensuring payroll and payments are calculated and processed in compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), policies and applicable legislation in multiple jurisdictions.- Review’s policies and procedures related to pay and where required, develops and implements new programs or changes in collaboration with HRC’s.- Oversees, reviews and approves financial reporting, reconciliations of payroll related accounts, including payroll journal entries.- Advises and assists management on compensation/pay issues, and the interpretation and administration of the compensation portions of the CBA, employment contracts, policies and procedures.- Validates, updates and finalizes individual economic, merit and salary holdback plan (SHP) payments, produces employee letters and oversees processing of payments.- Manages administration of multiple HR programs (e.g. parking assignments, remote work) in accordance to policies and ensures taxable benefits are in adherence to CRA.- Validates, updates and finalizes annual Vacation and SDO liability adjustments and journals.- Leads the team to complete year end related activities, including updating taxable benefits, reconciling, and producing T4’s, reconciling accounts and remittances/deductions and completes all government, external and internal reporting that is required.- Supports all internal and external audits as it relates to administering payroll, benefits and compensation programs in accordance with policies and legislation.- Advises team on resolutions to complex payroll or benefit calculations/payments; determines how to administer within HRMS capabilities.

Benefit Programs Management- Manages the administration of benefit plans, ensuring benefits are administered fairly and equitably and in compliance with the CBA, applicable legislation and policies.- Oversees the daily processing of all benefit programs including moving policy, flex/wellness plans, winter tire/computer purchase programs, etc. Ensures execution of the SGI long service and retirement gift programs.- Advises and assists management on benefit issues and the interpretation and administration of the benefit plan contracts.- Works collaboratively with HRC’s to develop and deliver information sessions or communications approach to educate management and employees on existing, changing or new group or internal benefit programs. Ensures the accurate execution of HR policies and programs for areas of responsibility.- Oversees and administers claims for death or dismemberment in accordance with policies and contracts.- Supports the annual review of group benefits and coordinates implementation and communication of changes.- Oversees the compilation of data for actuaries for year-end financial statements related to in-scope and out-of-scope retirement allowance programs.- Ensures monthly premium payments are made to all benefit providers.

Termination/Pension/Retirement Management- Works with management, and in collaboration with Director, to calculate payment transitions and support respectful exit plans. Works with terminated employees and outside counsel on payment structures.- Works with management and employees on retirement transitions including employer-initiated transitions. Prepares calculations, summaries and contracts for executive and employee signatures and supports employees on payment options in accordance with regulations and legislation.- Oversees the administration of two corporate pension plans, including processing of payments and contributions, counseling retiring/terminating employees and performing other activities related to retirement.- Works with external agencies on filings and responds to inquiries to resolve questions or concerns.

Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS), Payroll Module- Oversees the development and maintenance of the Workday payroll module, by collaborating with the HRMS team to assess and define the business needs and provides input/recommendations to Workday Tactical Change Committee for timely implementation of enhancements.- Acts as liaison between Payroll and Benefits and HRMS teams for the enhancement solution delivery and/or project facilitation.- Leads the testing for Payroll HRMS enhancements, supports Payroll Specialist on issues related to payroll HRMS, PeopleSoft Financials and data imports/exports.- Oversees documented Payroll and Benefits HRMS processes and p
