NSE is hiring for the position of Field Technician. This is a temporary, full-time contract position (approximately 8 weeks, through July and August) to support an Environmentally Significant Areas (ESA) Asset Management project in London, Ontario. This position will directly support this project by supporting a detailed built asset inventory and condition assessment (e.g., benches, signs, etc.) and supplementary collection of ecological assets (e.g., habitat structures) and hazard observations (e.g., erosion).

This is a field-intensive, entry level position ideal for someone who loves being outside, is detail oriented / diligent in their work, and (ideally) has experience navigating natural areas using a map and compass or GPS. This position is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to build their field skills and resume and gain some practical experience in consulting. While this role is primarily intended to support the London Asset project, opportunities to conduct some in-office activities in support of other projects and participate in other field activities with NSE’s team of ecologists may be available, depending on scheduling and workload.

Strong interpersonal skills, organization & attention to detail (e.g., field note and map preparation) are key attributes for this role. This role is a field-based position (>75% field work), ability to work under a variety of conditions (weather, insects) is required. This role requires the ability to walk for up to 15 km in a day over a variety of terrain and trail conditions (steep slopes, varied trail conditions - paved, gravel, natural surface with roots, erosion, etc.).

**POSITION INFORMATION**

This is a field-based position that requires travel to London, Ontario daily. The ecology-technician will work in a team with at least one other NSE staff member, walking trails in the City of London, taking GPS points, assessing assets and condition of assets (e.g., signs, benches) and and will be responsible for data entry (digital collection in-field), carrying and assisting with equipment, supporting surveys, and other duties, as needed to support the field work program.
- You will be in the field for approximately 6 hours every day (Monday - Friday) with travel, data entry and equipment management as the remainder of the day.
- The structure of work weeks will be dependent on field scheduling and weather. On 'weather days’ (i.e., weather which prevents field work from occurring) or on days when field work is not occurring, you will be assigned other general support tasks (e.g., organization, field equipment management, etc.).
- Contract start on or around July 2 (for internal training)
- Field work starts approximately July 4, 2024
- Contract Ends on or around August 30, 2024

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**
- Support field surveys anticipated to include:
Assessing assets and condition of assets

Other field work support, as assigned
- Detailed and organized recording of field observations:

- Marking GPS points
- Field survey data collection (via tablet and/or field forms as appropriate for survey type and in accordance with field program protocols)
- Photographic record
- Mapping (online and/or hardcopies, as appropriate for survey type & location)
- Work closely with field team members to undertake field program.
- Communication with field team members to coordinate field work, complete field safety protocols, support health & safety, enter and upload data, etc.
- Deliver high quality work

**QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES**
- Please note that this position is partially funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Grant and therefore to be eligible, participants must: _
- _Be between 15-30 years of age, at the start of the funded position;_
- _Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred; and_
- _Have a valid SIN _
