Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) is the Government of Alberta’s full-service communications, public relations, and marketing agency.

CPE provides planning, execution and measurement of communications efforts. Its expert staff provides specialized services across the spectrum of communications and marketing from research, design, writing and social media, to event coordination, issues management, digital communications, advertising and public consultation.

The agency staffs the external communications functions in all departments of government and its operations branch, with a mandate of enhancing communications between the people and the Government of Alberta.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Are you a skilled media editor with a passion for ensuring impactful content is dispersed to the correct audience? If so, the division of Insights, News Services wants to hear from you

We are seeking out a News Services Editor to perform the following duties:

- Provide critical thinking and editorial skills
- Write clear and concise headlines for articles of interest to the Government of Alberta
- Provide transcripts of government-related media availabilities, on occasion
- Review broadcast media items for articles of GoA interest as part of a weekend rotation
- Assist the Approver on weeknight tasks
- Provide relief for News Services Editor as necessary
- Work independently, requiring self-discipline to achieve the position's objectives

This position will seek out and assess news stories to determine their relevance to the GOA, then process the text, or broadcast files, and enter them into a database, which is accessible to various ministries throughout the GoA. To be successful in this role, you will need to possess expert level comprehension and writing skills that are continually being utilized. Your work in this role directly contributes to policy making by ensuring various levels of government are informed of current events impacting Albertans every day.

**Qualifications**:
**Requirements**:

- Two-year diploma in Arts or Economics plus two years related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered based on:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Experience in:

- Media monitoring, politics, humanities, economics or the arts would be an asset.
- Minimum typing speed of 60 words per minute is required.
- Ability to transcribe audio accurately and quickly is required.

This opportunity is for 1 (one) part-time, temporary position.

Hours of work:

- Monday-Wednesday from 5pm-9pm
- Every second weekend
- Saturdays 6am-7am, 10am-11:15am; and
- Sundays 3pm-8pm
- Periodic vacation relief for other News Services Editors will be required.
