**Position: RESPECTFUL HEALTH SURVEYOR**

**PROJECT & JOB OVERVIEW**

The Respectful Health Surveyor is responsible for supporting a welcoming environment for community members who participate in an **Urban-Indigenous Population Health Survey** study titled, **Our Health Counts (OHC) Winnipeg**. OHC is building applied and self-determined First Nations, Inuit, and Metis health and well-being information systems in urban homelands. OHC produces population representative health information and prides itself on including members of our community that don’t always come in for services. Drawing from AHWC’s mission statement and values, this magnetic person will assist in collecting survey data from community members when they participate in the OHC Survey. OHC Survey collection will take place at various survey sites, hence, the ability to mobilize is an essential component of this study. The Respectful Health Surveyor should demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the histories, traditions, and cultures of Indigenous peoples, inclusive of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit communities and Nations, including an understanding of the importance of decolonizing research systems and spaces. This study is grounded in Indigenous methodological principles, for example, ‘nothing about us without us’.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**
- Welcomes and supports all Indigenous - _First Nation, Inuit, and Métis _- and non-Indigenous community members entering AHWC including people who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community and persons who live with disabilities
- Supports the collection, verification, entry, and management of face to face and telephone surveys using computer assisted data entry software
- Conducts 3-4 (90 minute) surveys _per_ shift
- Supports the day to day operations of the research ensuring that all aspects of the study protocol is carried out in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner
- Commitment to maintain confidentiality of information and records
- Commitment to maintain Community-Based and Indigenous research ethics
- Ensure proper handling of all research data including safeguarding Personal Health Information (PHI) according to the Personal Health Information Act
- Possesses knowledge of social issues such as poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, substance use, mental health/illness, racism, and other challenges faced by Indigenous populations in Winnipeg
- Completes other duties that may be assigned (be a ‘ _Helper_’) when required as part of the OHC-Winnipeg team, not exceeding stated skills and capabilities

**ESSENTIAL SKILLS**
- Excellent team building skills
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in the use of computer software (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA)

**DECISION MAKING**
- Ability to distinguish between circumstances in which decisions can be made independently and those where consultation is needed
- Ability to determine the best recommendations to make when approached for advice or resources

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Completion of a recognized university degree, community college diploma program, or other related discipline
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience deemed acceptable by AHWC
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples
