Position Overview

Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is in search of a qualified candidate to take on the role of a Manitoba Land Surveyor. This position falls under the Construction Support Services branch, which is one of four divisions dedicated to Construction and Maintenance. The branch offers expert technical training, consulting, specialized procurement, and evaluation services to ensure the consistent quality and fairness in the execution of highway construction projects.

Employment Conditions:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's license
  • Must be licensed as a Manitoba Land Surveyor or be able to obtain the Manitoba Land Surveyor (MLS) License within 8 months of employment

Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Surveying Engineering or a suitable combination of education, experience, and training
  • Experience in field operations with the capability to support legal surveys
  • Experience in various human resource functions such as training, coaching, labor relations, mentoring, and conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety, Health & Risk Management policies and procedures
  • Practical experience with GPS legal land survey applications

Desired:
  • Experience in submitting plans for registration in Manitoba's property rights system
  • Familiarity with construction specifications, procedures, and guidelines
  • Working knowledge of AUTOCAD

Key Responsibilities: This role is accountable for the management and operation of a section responsible for delivering the Survey Services Program and Land Survey System Program in the northwest region of the province. The Manitoba Land Surveyor is a legislated professional who provides high-level technical and legal survey expertise in accordance with the bylaws of the Association of Manitoba Land Surveyors (AMLS). This position reports to the Manager of Survey Services and involves overseeing long-term surveying and mapping projects that require extensive collaboration with various stakeholders, including Crown Lands, Manitoba Hydro, Transportation and Infrastructure, Parks and Protected Spaces, Mining Oil and Gas, Education, First Nations, and Natural Resources Canada.
