Manager, Scientific Outreach and Education

**Description**
Quantum City is creating a vibrant quantum economic and scientific hub based in Calgary, leveraging leading quantum science and technology programs and a burgeoning UCalgary innovation ecosystem to build a startup accelerator program.
Reporting to the Managing Director, of Quantum City, the Manager Scientific Outreach and Education Engagement and is responsible for the overall operation and leadership of the Quantum City Outreach and Education Engagement portfolio. The incumbent will participate in the planning and development of Quantum City's educational and outreach programs, including policies, procedures, and services. The incumbent will implement and manage the established procedures and services in the portfolio.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Manage the successful operation of the Scientific Outreach and Education Engagement programs and opportunities that contribute to the mission of Quantum City, which includes but is not limited to scientific outreach initiatives and Quantum City HQP funding calls.
- Build, promote, and grow the Quantum City Trainee Community globally.
- Collaborate with UCalgary on recruitment initiatives, internship placements, program development, and industry connections.
- Leads team members to deliver successful education & industry outreach events that meet the objectives of Quantum City.
- Develop productive relationships and collaboration with faculty and students and enhance academic programs.
- Develop productive relationships with the faculty leadership team, academics, students, and staff.
- Cultivate strong, trust-based relationships with key decision-makers by understanding their priorities and aligning your work to support their objectives.
- Offer valuable insights and recommendations to leadership based on research, analysis, and stakeholder feedback.
- Managerial discretion for direct reports, including performance management and discipline up to and including termination.
- Promote a collaborative team environment through excellent role modeling, coaching, and training. Assigning work fairly and in a way that ensures the breadth of skill and development of the team.
- Ensure that effective operations and a high level of quality assurance are always maintained, so that industry partners and trainees consistently receive professional and fair treatment.
- Provide strong leadership and use excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills to lead and motivate individuals to work cohesively in a team environment.
- Manage advising policies and procedures, ensuring they are developed per university processes, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure that important roles and functions such as Records Coordination and FOIP Administration are fulfilled within the training, development, and education programs that Quantum City supports, ensuring that all records/information/archives, and access to the same, are managed per university policy.
- Ensure to guide a range of stakeholders, including funding applicants, students, staff, and external stakeholders regarding the Quantum City Scientific Outreach and Education Engagement portfolio, per Quantum City's policies and procedures.
- Lead and develop communications and outreach strategy and manage the activities for the Scientific Outreach and Education Engagement portfolio in collaboration with the Manager, Communications & Public Engagement to coordinate the maintenance, accuracy, and consistency of information.
- Perform other related tasks that support the achievement of Quantum City's strategic direction and vision.
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- A master's degree in physics, Science, Mathematics, or Computer Science (a Ph. D is considered an asset) is required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience.
- Previous experience working with post-secondary students, research institutes, funding agencies and industry is required.
- Driven by a deep commitment to making a difference, channeling your passion for outreach into meaningful connections and impactful community engagement.
- Proven track record of supporting educational initiatives, collaborating with faculty and students, and enhancing academic programs.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills, an ability to manage multiple projects, and a commitment to fostering an enriching academic environment.
- Ability to identify and analyze business needs and participate in the development of budgets, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; including aligning staff and resources to achieve targets.
- Comfortable and effective engagement with leadership involving strategic collaboration and effective communication. Facilitate productive meetings and discussions with senior leaders to align on goals, strategies, and project updates.
