The BCSGA has been the voice of the shellfish industry since 1948. The Association is a non-profit organization that represents approximately 90% of shellfish production in British Columbia which includes farmers, processors, industry suppliers and service providers related to the industry.
The vision of the BCSGA is to advance the sustainable growth and prosperity of the BC shellfish industry in a global economy by providing leadership, communication and advocacy to members, government, the public and other stakeholders while maintaining and improving the integrity of the marine environment.
The BCSGA is looking for an aspiring Public Relations (PR) and Communications Specialist to help shape and promote positive social licence for the BC shellfish aquaculture industry. You’ll be responsible for formulating and implementing plans and strategies to enhance and highlight the positive contributions of our industry. This includes identifying and building relationships with important stakeholders to highlight and increase positive public awareness and support for the BC shellfish industry.
Purpose
- Provide capacity for social licence plans and strategies
- Enhance the Association’s voice and presence by promoting the industry through online and offline channels
- Engage membership in the work the BCSGA does on their behalf
- BC shellfish industry stakeholder review
- BC shellfish aquaculture industry jurisdictional mapping
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Formulate social licence plans and strategies
- Enhance the Association’s voice and promote the industry’s presence through online and offline channels
- BC Shellfish industry stakeholder review
- BC industry jurisdictional mapping
- Draft letters of support to proponents in the industry
- Develop a media-response toolkit
- Plan and supervise our AGM and events
- Support the implementation of promotional plans (such as beach clean up events, social media etc.)
- Lead survey initiatives and analyze public opinion
REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- Interest in public relations or similar role
- Interest in project management and execution of social licence campaigns and/or initiatives
- Interest in copywriting and editing
- Working knowledge of MS Office
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook etc.)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in English, knowledge of Cantonese, Mandarin or Vietnamese is appreciated
- A creative yet practical mind
- Enrolled in a BSc/BA in PR, communications, journalism or relevant field
COMPENSATION
- $20.00 per hour
- 8-month term position
- Flexible working hours
LOCATION
Association is based in Comox, British Columbia, but work from home is an option.
