Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Senior HR Advisor, the HR Advisor is responsible for a full range of human resources services for administrative staff in support of the Faculty of Science’s mission and objectives.

Main responsibilities include areas relating to recruitment, talent acquisition and management, compensation, benefits administration, organizational design and training and labour/employee relations. Act as a resource person and provides advice on the interpretation of collective agreements and personnel policies referring to unionized and non-unionized groups. Participate in the development and implementation of University’ personnel policies and new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the faculty/departments by keeping abreast of new developments and trends in the field of human resources management.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance to faculty members with respect to the day-to-day management of human resources policies and procedures, including academic, non-unionized/unionized groups and the managing of several collective agreements.- Undertake all aspects of the recruitment cycle from the creation of the job description to the production of the offer letter.- Work with the HR system (Workday) to process all the recruitment steps.- Participate in the development of the University personnel policies and procedures and their dissemination throughout the faculty/department/unit.- Explore and identify current and upcoming trends in recruitment, talent management/acquisition and recommend/implement processes to attract and retain top talent.- Participate in process improvement activities related to talent acquisition such as web site redesign, social media presence and reducing recruitment cycle time.- Develop strong working relationships with internal clients to understand and identify current and future talent needs and advise on talent acquisition processes, activities and outcomes.-
- Partner closely with other recruiters and HR Advisors to leverage internal pool of talent currently on career and employment transition.- Exercise leadership in directing and influencing faculty/department/unit members in the attainment of established goals and objectives.- Provide guidance and coaching to managers on how to solve labor-related issues. Assist managers with performance or disciplinary files when appropriate. Mediate disputes and facilitate conflict resolution as needed.- Manage grievance files including investigating background, provide follow-up, and ensure the manager is informed on the evolution of the file. Liaise with the Central Labor and Employee Relations office vis-à-vis the handling of grievances and the arbitration process.- Undertake job assessments and administer job abolition requests and recommend changes as appropriate. Propose and assist with implementation of structural changes as necessary. Negotiate relocation assignments with managers and researchers.- Advise managers on merit, performance and salary issues. Ensure effective administration of performance management process, including how performance reviews are completed and their outcomes.- Look for parity and equity across groups; submit and evaluate anomaly requests.- Manage and prepare requests for match and rematch of positions.- Conduct exit interviews and gather data on turnover. Report on turnover patterns. Make recommendations to reduce turnover.- Collaborate with stakeholders in the preparation of succession plans.- Participate on special projects
