These positions reside in the Ministry of Health under the Acute Care Division, within the Acute Care Branch (ACB).
**Role Responsibilities**:
**Clinical Specialist, Cancer**:
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Provide research, policy, and strategy development in support of Ministry cancer program and Business Plan priorities.
- Develop and implement a framework for cancer care policy, supporting departmental leadership in cancer care health system capacity.
- Support communication strategies for significant announcements related to wait times and access.
- Manage issues proactively and comprehensively.
- Coordinate work on provincial wait times, treatment improvements, and planning initiatives with partners.
- Develop communication materials to inform and educate stakeholders, including Ministerial correspondence.
- Prepare updates and briefings for senior leadership and liaise with Communications for briefings and announcements.
- Advise stakeholders on policy alignment with the Government of Alberta’s priorities for acute care.
- Review, update, and develop administrative forms and manuals.
- Identify performance measures and indicators.
- Draft briefing notes, letters, memos, and other communications requiring clinical expertise.
- Maintain professional competence and meet tight timelines in a dynamic workflow environment.
**Policy Development**:
- Collaborate with colleagues to incorporate health standards, evidence-based practices, quality, and access initiatives into policy.
- Conduct literature reviews and jurisdictional scans, providing recommendations via reports and presentations.
- Consult on legislation, policies, and standards, providing interpretation and explanation to stakeholders.
- Answer or take action on multiple questions based on various pieces of legislation.
- Identify, evaluate, and support innovative acute care strategies, programs, and initiatives.
- Review national and international work to understand trends, innovations, and models of care.
- Assist in data collection, analysis, and reporting on cancer care health outcomes to inform policy and strategy development.
- Participate in policy working groups, forums, and related activities.

**Relationship Management**:
- Build and sustain strategic networks with internal and external stakeholders.
- Link health system priorities with existing initiatives within the ministry or across government.
- Represent the branch, division, or ministry on cross-ministry committees.
- Engage executive and staff in business/operational planning, progress monitoring, evaluation, and communications.
- Collaborate with branch leaders to advance and deliver on divisional priorities and sustain information sharing and communication mechanisms.
- Provide representation and input to special projects across various ministries, divisions, branches, and units.
- Meet and consult with stakeholders to assist in program development from a ministry perspective.
**Clinical Specialist, Surgery**:
The Clinical Specialist in the Acute Care Division helps develop policies, standards, and legislation to ensure safe and effective acute care operations.
